COLLETTE AGNES MARIE RAYMOND (nee CHARRON) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Collette Raymond, on Monday, May 27, 2013 at the age of 79. Born in Templeton, Quebec on January 6, 1934. Collette will be forever remembered by her four children Wayne Raymond, Linda Funk (Ron), Julie Hogue (Emile), Sharon Franks (Malcolm) and her grandchildren Kristen (Max), Kurtis, Andrew (Brandice) and Brian. Also by her brother James Charron and sisters Irene Smith (Don), Mary-Rose Demers (Don) and Diane Sacher. Collette is predeceased by her parents Adelard and Alda Charron, brothers Fernard, Wilfred and Yvon, granddaughter Rhonda Raymond and our father Alfred Raymond. Collette grew up in Larder Lake, Ontario. The first girl after four older brothers, Collette had no choice but to be a bit of a "tom girl". She enjoyed swimming, downhill skiing and drawing: especially horses. One of her first jobs was a telephone operator, the Lily Tomlin of Larder Lake. She met our dad in Larder Lake where he worked in the mines. They married and had their first of four children. They made a big move to St. George, Manitoba and eventually purchased the family homestead (The Farm). She was no stranger to hard work and carried that work ethic throughout her life. After moving to Winnipeg in 1966 she worked at McLeods Hardware Store and at St. Amant Centre as a Health Care Aide. One of her Passions was dancing and she could often be found at the Legion on a Saturday night. She also loved to travel. She took many trips over her life time. One trip in particular, her and her girlfriend made a six week road trip to the east coast and then down through the U.S.A. Sounded like they had a good time because they are now referred as "Thelma and Louise". We will never know the reason behind that one! Our mom had the gift to shop, boy could she shop! Most of her time was spent with her family, especially at the lake where she loved to swim and enjoy the odd book and a beer! After being diagnosed with cancer in November 2012, one of her wishes was to visit her family out East. A family get together was arranged in Sarnia with her brother, sisters, nieces and nephews. That was a memory we will never forget. As well her sister from Calgary made a visit to Winnipeg just before Christmas and her niece and husband from Saskatchewan. She talked about the trip out East and the visits often. She spent her last days at Riverview Palliative Care and at Grace Hospice. The family thanks the staff and caregivers during this time. Also thanks to family and friends who visited. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9 or to Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 0R3. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • My long distance sister Collette She was long distant in phone calls, long distant in travel and long intervals between visits home. We all know she loved to dance. So let me tell you about a dance we went to in our neighboring town. Now I am five years her junior and did not smoke but that night I was huffing and puffing and gasping for breath after dancing too many polkas and jives. ( I was the only one there who had a partner who did not dance these two dances). She was ready to dance all night and I think I found a hiding spot. She also tried, in vain I might add, to teach us the Chateese in Mary Roses's back yard. She soon gave that up. I don't know if we were too dumb to learn or was it that one too many beers we had? Hmmmmm What I am trying to say is that next to her children dancing was her great love. By now she has probably picked out her new dancing shoes and is dancing on clouds as she looks down at all the people she has left to mourn her passing. Who knows maybe she has found Mom and is now leading her in a nice waltz. Love you sis and will miss you Thank you guys for thinking of us and including us in her memorial service. Wish we could be there with you. Love you all Aunt Irene - Posted by: Irene (Sister) on: Jun 13, 2013
