AUGUST THEODORE (TED) BLONDAL August Theodore (Ted) Blondal passed peacefully at home on June 2, 2013 at the age of 64 years, surrounded by his children and grandchild. He is survived by his children, Michael (Kristin Garner), Thor, Kirsten and Olivia Blondal, his grandchild, Ayla Blondal, his siblings Jim Blondal (Marie McKie), Gillian Goodman and Erika Goodman (Michael Forint), his father, Gil Goodman, as well as his nieces and nephews. His beloved mother, Marjorie Goodman, passed away on April 20, 2013. Ted was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 9, 1948 at the old Grace Hospital. His childhood was spent growing up on Clifton St. with his younger brother, Jim. His mother remarried when he was 14 and soon he was the proud, older brother of Gillian and Erika. He enjoyed many activities in his youth, including hockey, football, choir and camping at Toniata Beach. He graduated as an honours student from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate prior to attending the University of Manitoba, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts, pursued French Studies at the Master's Level and eventually obtained his Post-Baccalaureate in Education. He was married to Kimberley Routledge-Blondal in 1983 and shortly after she gave birth to their first son, Michael. Ted began his teaching career at Sturgeon Creek Collegiate in 1984. In 1986, son Thor was born and in 1987 the family moved out to Selkirk so he could begin teaching at Lac du Bonnet Senior School. Kirsten was born the following year, and then Olivia in 1991. He recently celebrated the birth of his first granddaughter, Ayla Blondal, on March 17, 2013. Ted also found an additional calling as School Counselor, and did his utmost to assist those students in need. His passions in life included film, music, literature, the French language, fine wine, baseball (Yankees), hockey, football, photography, motorcycles, gardening, home aquariums, and, of course, his children. Most recently Ted dealt with many of the ill-effects of heart disease and his family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in lieu of flowers. Cremation has taken place and a service in his memory will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. • I knew Teddy when we were little kids and he was a pal! We had a lot of fun at birthday parties and family gatherings. I was sorry to lose contact with him over the years but he has a place in my heart that only a cousin you knew at age 3 can have. Memories...my sincere condolences to the family and Ted's children whom I have come to know. He leaves a beautiful legacy in these wonderful young people. Love Janis - Posted by: Janis G.
