JEAN PETERSON (nee LAWRIE) January 6, 1922 - June 23, 2013 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our Mother and Gram. Mom passed peacefully at St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit surrounded by the love of her family. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Gladys Innes, son James, daughter Geraldine (Dick), son Lawrie (Debbi), daughter Gwen (Gary), and daughter Karen, 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mom currently resided at the Canoe Club where she spent hours enjoying her view of the Red River and the beautiful gardens. Mom was a long-time resident of St. Vital but her greatest pleasures in life came from her summer home in Ponemah. She spent special times with her family, entertaining friends, sharing laughter and doing the daily crosswords. She made years of memories that have now become her legacy to her family. Jean's passion for sailing and yachting was shared with friends on excursions that took them to the north basin of Lake Winnipeg on many occasions. Mom led a very active, physical life and was a member of the Wildwood Club for years. Jean's love of water led her to a lengthy career as a lifeguard and swimming instructor for the City of Winnipeg. Mom spent regular times with her Bridge Club girls that brought her over 50 years of joy and friendship. Jean was a strong supporter of the Winnipeg Symphony and loved both music and art. Jean was always the Proper Lady but had a cheeky sense of humour that set her apart from others. She was always kind and had a nice word to say about everybody. Jean had many friends who will miss her dearly. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial reception celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Winnipeg Squash Club, located at 275 Stradbrook Ave. at Donald Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the St. Boniface Hospital for their exemplary care and kindness. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU & CO. Gwen, Gary and rest of family We will miss Jeannie and are so glad she was able to be with us at our recent gathering for mom. I wanted to talk about her and she was focused on trying to console me. I have years of memories of times at the lake - beach bonfires, dinners, swims, and of course Jeannie and Mom's daily calls and visits. So hard to accept that they are now both gone. Our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Rosalyn Howard (friend and daughter of close friend) on: Jul 04, 2013

So many memories of my childhood involve Mrs Peterson!! Can never forget the sound of the Jeep and Jean being at the wheel and always kids in the back! She lived her life with determination, hard work a sense of humor, an infectious laugh and such grace. In recent years she has been such a dear friend and confidant to my Mom (Bernice Muir)who will miss their daily visits on the Pier, their phone conversations and happy hours/dinners. To know her was to love and admire her. My condolences to the family...Thinking of you all.. - Posted by: Ruth Gibson (Muir) (family friend) on: Jun 25, 2013

Lake Drive in Ponemah will not be the same without Jean! We have been Ponemah next door neighbours my whole life. Earlier on, I knew her as my friend’s mom, and later as my friend and neighbor. Jean was kind, respectful, warm, intelligent and young at heart. I loved her wonderful sense of humour and the twinkle in her eye. I always felt welcome in the Peterson Family, and enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to visit her. Her family adored her. In the last several years, every trip to Ponemah started with my dog racing out of the car to Grandma P’s door for a treat. I would have a visit with her in the porch. We will miss her very much. My sympathies to the whole family. Love, Renee, Duncan, Ethan and Bear - Posted by: Renee Ethans (Ponemah next door neighbour) on: Jun 25, 2013

My husband Alan and I have many happy memories of Jean. We had some wonderful gatherings of sailing friends at the cottage. Jean was such a wonderful hostess! I particularly remember the stuffed pelican and the player piano. She will be missed. - Posted by: Diane McMillan (sailing friend) on: Jun 25, 2013

my sympathy and fond memories of your mom! Her visit to Shoal Lake with Gerry - we had to stop to extinguish a fire on a wee island before going anywhere! and then entertaining me and Gerry at her lake - that darn piano - my legs ached for weeks and the sound was never quite right ... but we laughed and laughed. What a lady - what fun ...God bless Cathy - Posted by: Cathy Murray (family friend) on: Jun 25, 2013
