SYBIL THURMEIER (nee LEACH) Peacefully, on Thursday, June 27, 2013 Sybil passed away in Winnipeg at the age of 93 years. Sybil will be sadly missed by devoted son Rick (Sue); son-in-law John Wickberg; and grandchildren David and Rena Wickberg, Sarah, Katy and James Thurmeier and dear friends Donna and Jack. She will also be fondly remembered by the Sandalack family; Ron, Carol, John, Alan, and by many other family and friends. She was predeceased by beloved husband Jake; cherished daughter Janis and sister Dorothea (Sandalack). Sybil grew up in Lampman, Saskatchewan where she and her sister ran the local Post Office. There she met Jake, and spent many hours touring in the side car of his motorcycle. Once married, Sybil and Jake followed RCAF postings throughout Canada, settling in Winnipeg in 1959. She enjoyed a satisfying career as a real estate agent in Winnipeg. Sybil thrived on great times with family and friends, and especially enjoyed her Silver Broom experiences with Jake (often including Rick's thirsty pals). In compliance with Sybil's wishes, no formal services are planned at this time. Her Interment will be held in Chapel Lawn Cemetery. Special thanks to the incredible care team on the second floor of Oakview Place. Their caring, compassion, and genuine connection with Sybil was of tremendous comfort. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sybil's name to the MS Society, 100 1465 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg, MB R3T 1L8. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • The last time I saw Mrs. Thurmeier was 2000. I was thinking just the other day of playing with Rick in the summer at the table booth downstairs on Guildford Street. Thank you Mrs. Thurmeier (Sybil - what a beautiful name) for your kindness and the good thoughts that come to mind when I think of you. - Posted by: Dianne Rose (old neighbour) on: Jul 11, 2013

  • Our deepest condolences to Rick & Sue, Katy, Sarah and James. - Posted by: Randy and Debbie Abraham () on: Jul 08, 2013

  • I have very fond memories of Mrs. Thurmeier at the Silver Broom. Rick, your parents were both so friendly to Bob and I. I remember drinks in their room! It was great to see them and to be part of a memory that meant something special to her. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Your Mom was a great person. - Posted by: John Allardyce (one of Rick's thirsty pals at the Silber Broom) on: Jul 06, 2013
