JAMES (JIM) EDWARD GREY July 5, 1950 July 2, 2013 With great sadness and fond memories, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Jim Grey, on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at his cabin in Belair, Manitoba. Jim will be greatly missed by his wife Michelle, stepson John Jason, daughter Lauren (Scott) Henderson and grandson Chase, son Denny (Jacalyn) Grey, mother Bernice Grey, sister Mary Jane Reid, sister Susan (Bud) McLeod, brother Peter (Leona) Grey, several loving nieces and nephews, countless friends, and his faithful lab Whiskey (Woots). Jim's lifelong love of the outdoors and camp life began at the family's cottage, Greyrock, on Lake of the Woods, and was a monumental part of the man that he was throughout the rest of his years. He learned early from his dad how to fish and shoot .22s and .410s at targets on the wood pile, which was just the beginning of a life filled with incredible hunting trips, and even more incredible hunting stories. His curiosity as to how things work led him to teach himself taxidermy, and he is likely one of few men brave enough (or crazy enough) to hold a live bat and demonstrate its many rows of teeth. Jim and his wife Michelle shared many happy years together. Their relationship was something to behold; they appreciated and egged on each other's quirky senses of humour, they had each other's backs, and they brought out the best in each other. A genuine jack of all trades, Jim held a variety of jobs over the years, including working alongside his dad at Cochrane Stephenson. He culminated his career by establishing CSL Construction, his own prosperous scaffolding company. His unique and analytical mind helped him develop a successful company that could tackle any scaffolding challenge that came their way most notably the Provencher Pedestrian Bridge in St. Boniface. A modest man with a fiery attitude, Jim had a genuine love for life, and he will be missed tremendously by all who knew him. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Jim's honour can be made to Ducks Unlimited Canada or the Winnipeg Humane Society. A celebration of Jim's life will take place Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd, Winnipeg, MB. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

We work at the mill Gerdau. so sad for the family. It was a shock for us also. He looked so serious most of the time. I would make him laugh when he came into the yard. One of a kind. - Posted by: GUARDHOUSE (WORKMATES) on: Jul 31, 2013

Jim always had a special place in our daughters' hearts as we spent 7 wonderful years when they were little at Robert's Lodge. His kindness, generosity and wit made us all love him. We will be back at Robert's Lodge this summer-- I wish we could see him one more time--some day in Heaven my friend. Geez Jim this was way too early. I was one of the numerous kids born in 1950 and 1951 that lived on the west end of Elm Park Road. Jim was always marching to his own drummer. I remember vividly his return from California in 1967 - bull whip, cowboy boots - a real folk hero. Then his drag racing the Firebird 400 that he was ostensibly "sharing" with Mrs. Grey. The 1970 BSA Lightning. Running the sporting goods store in Kenora. He had a lot of fun. - Posted by: Dave Johnson (Elm Park Road reprobate) on: Jul 06, 2013

Michelle and family, so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. As you know, he was a long time friend with a kindred spirit. He will be greatly missed by both of us. - Posted by: John and Donna Burgoyne (friends) on: Jul 06, 2013
