MARK ALEN DEAN REIMER Surrounded by the love of his family, Mark passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the Victoria General Hospital, at the age of 56 years. Left to cherish Mark's memory are Agnès (Gagné), his loving wife who showed great love, support, strength and compassion as he battled illnesses and adversities; his father Leonard; sisters Bonny (Ross) and Kim; father-in-law Roger; brothers-in-law André (Keiko) and Marc; sisters-in-law Irène (Jim), Yvonne (Paul), Denise (Ihor), Gisele and Lisa, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who loved him dearly. Mark was predeceased by his mother Marlene; brothers Kevin and Randy; sister Roberta Faith; and mother-in-law Hélène. Mark was born in Winnipeg on March 15, 1957 and grew up in Fort Richmond where he held many childhood memories of a simple, happy upbringing. He attended Fort Richmond Collegiate and had many friends in the neighbourhood. In earlier years Mark enjoyed hanging out with family or friends and revelled in a good game of billiards, bowling, or Trivial Pursuit. Mark always held a passion for auto mechanics and for many years could be seen tinkering with vehicles in driveways and garages in the south end of the city. Of all outdoor activities, Mark loved fishing with his brothers-in-law the best - he could easily spend hours sitting there, just waiting for the next bite. Always the joker, Mark enjoyed being among family and friends to banter and share witty remarks. During his quiet time, Mark enjoyed his corner of the couch, as well as the comfort and companionship of sitting by Agnès' side watching favourite TV programs, doing crosswords, reading the newspaper from one end to the other, or delving into a bestselling novel. Mark cherished the times he met his dad for coffee on weekends where they shared special memories, good conversation and much laughter. Even though Mark suffered from a mental health illness, he was able to function on a day-to-day basis and always held hope that he would one day earn a living doing what he loved most. When Mark felt well enough, a spark in him ignited a drive to pursue his ambitions. Proud achievements for Mark include attaining his diploma in Professional and Advanced Locksmithing, and most recently his Auto Mechanics certificate. Mark had a very fun and easy-going demeanor but despite his joyful spirit, there were points during his life in which he battled illness, particularly during the 1990s and again this past year. Aside from this, Mark enjoyed an active life up to his final days. A part of Mark will forever live on in the hearts and memories of those who loved him dearly. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital, Intensive Care Unit, for their care and compassion during Mark's illness; and to Dr. Sharkey, his long-time physician. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg, MB. Interment will take place at a later date in the St. Norbert Parish Cemetery. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. • I have so many fond memories of you, Mark. Your family's home was a second home to me and you were like the little brother I never had. My Dad had a nickname for everyone on the block and he christened you "Mary" because you were always following Bonny and I around. The name stuck for many years as we continued our friendship into adulthood. Gene and I always enjoyed the times we spent with you and also with your sweetheart Agnes. Your seething wit and great sense of humour always kept us laughing. It has been many years since we had the pleasure of your company but we will meet again in Heaven. Our thoughts and prayers are with your precious family. Agnes, Bonny, Kim, and dear Mr Reimer. Love you all and will see you soon. - Posted by: Deb Brown (Very old friend) on: Jul 11, 2013

  • Sending my deepest sympathy to Len, Bonny and Kim. it has been so many years but have really good memories of the years with your family. Marlene always remembered me at Christmas and birthdays. I was just telling my grandsons the story of that greyhound type dog you had on Crescent Dr that you had to chain to the chair and then the chair to the wall. remember walking to your Townsend Ave house down University Cres on huge snowdrifts from the March 66 blizzard. - Posted by: Adele Wooden (Old neighbour & babysitter) on: Jul 11, 2013

  • Mark and I grew up together in Fort Richmond. Happy times. He always found a way to make me laugh. We lost touch for several years after high school, and then one day he happened to connect with me at my place of work. We were both older. Wiser. (He more than me.) And he still could make me laugh. You will be missed and never forgotten, my long lost friend. - Posted by: Bruce Michalski (School buddy) on: Jul 10, 2013
