JOSEPHINE CESKA February 27, 1920 Nasedlovice, Czechoslovakia July 10, 2013 Winnipeg, Manitoba Peacefully with family by her side, Josephine left this world to be with her Lord. She joins her husband Walter who left us on May 16, 2010. Josephine will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Hana and her husband Pete, son Mark, grandchildren Shannon (Jim), David, Nikola and Kiera, and great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Lilah. Mum was born in Nasedlovice, a small town in Czechoslovakia. She left Europe on the last ship to leave Germany prior to the outbreak of war in 1939 and lived in the United States and Haiti where she managed a shoe factory for Bata Shoe Co. She settled in Ontario where she met and married her loving husband Walter. Mum fondly recalled many happy years spent in Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba raising her family and enjoying the company of her many friends whom she cherished. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd. A private family interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Mum lived a happy healthy life until health issues curtailed her activities a few years ago. After a severe stroke two days after her 92nd birthday in February 2012, Mum moved to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. The family wishes to thank the exceptional staff who cared for her with so much love and compassion over the past year. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten by the family. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Dear family of Aunt Josephine, I still remember at my cousin's wedding a few years ago how Aunt Josephine and I got up from the table and went together up to greet the couple. I was wanting to stay with her to make sure she was okay managing her way across all the distance, since her health was already not what it used to be. But after giving our greetings, she just took off ahead of me! :-) My condolences and wish for you that you would have a significant awareness of God's presence as you contemplate her passing. - Posted by: Alicia Sawatzky () on: Aug 21, 2013

  • It is good to know that Josephine Ceska is at peace. Although it is sad to say "Goodbye", the thought that she is with God and being reunited with loved ones is cause for hope and joy. - Posted by: Anne Guenther (Church Family friend & companion) on: Jul 12, 2013

  • With a heavy heart I say Goodbye to my dearest and closest friend JOSKA. I find it hard to accept the fact, that I will never speak to her or never see her again. What a lovely, strong, wise and kind human being we are loosing! Her soul and long time memories will always stay in my heart!!! • Just know that we are thinking of you. Our hearts go out to you at this time and in the days ahead. Hugs to all of you from us. - Posted by: Shirley and Jim (Friends) on: Jul 12, 2013

  • Mrs. Ceska was a wonderful friend in the few years I was privileged to know her. We shared many hearty discussions and leaned on each other for support when we had concerns. She was so loving, she reminded me of my mother who died several years ago. I shall remember her with much fondness.
