SANTINA ANTOINETTA SEVER (nee FERRARI) Peacefully with her family at her side on July 9, 2013, Santina passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 76 years. Santina leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of 30 years, Joseph Sever, children Michel (Oksana) Douchant, Alain (Margaret) Douchant, Daniel (Joanne) Douchant, Christian (Anita) Douchant, sister Bruna, brothers Egidio, Louis, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews in Belgium and close friends Amedeo and Luciana Capone. She was predeceased by her parents, Arturo and Rita (nee Vanotti) Ferrari, and brother Joseph. Mom was born in Bergamo, Italy in 1937. After the war when she was ten, she moved with her family to Petit Wasmes, Belgium to start a new life. She learnt the French language quickly and excelled in school. She helped her mother with the younger children while her father worked in the coal industry. She became a live-in nanny as a teenager and so gained her independence at an early age. She met and married Robert Douchant in 1957 and in 1959, immigrated with their young son to St. Boniface and in due course raised three more boys. In 1970, she met Joseph Sever who became her devoted husband, they married in 1983. She had a beautiful sense of colour and happily decorated their home with furniture, family pictures, flowers and objects d'art. She kept in close touch with her immediate and extended family in Belgium; she often phoned asking about their lives and health. She was very generous and gave many presents and gifts over the years. Her hobbies included gardening and she planted many flowers and perennials in their yard. She enjoyed listening to CBC Radio-Canada and participated on many call-in programs. We will all truly miss her. Many heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their support during Santina's illness. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013 with viewing being held prior to service at 9:30 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • I remember Santina fondly, giving advice on Romaine vs iceberg lettuce and how to make a good sauce. Joe and Santina had a really nifty wedding cake: a pile of eclairs glued together with candied syrup. And her garden was amazing! She also had an olive tree in her garage, so I knew she was a Mediterranean woman! *sending hugs* - Posted by: Mary Fehr (Michel, her 1st son, is married to my sister.) on: Jul 11, 2013
