ALICE JUNE CARRIGAN (MCDONALD) 1929 - 2013 Peacefully, with family at her side, on July 11, 2013 Alice passed away at Victoria Hospital at the age of 84 years. Alice will be remembered with great love and admiration by her children, Pat, Greg (Wendy) and Christine Kristjanson (Stefan) and dearly missed by her granddaughters, Melissa, Samantha, Freyja, as well as Signy, Johann, Bjorn, and her granddogs! Alice also leaves her sisters, Beatrice Brooks, Maude Poirier (Roger), Dorothy Markusson (Al) and Florence Larsen (Bob), and many dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Norman, Gordon, Bill, Murray and Ted. Alice was born in Winnipeg on June 5, 1929, grew up in Elmwood and graduated from Lord Selkirk High School. At a recent tour of the Manitoba Legislative Building, she recalled in detail, her working life with various government departments before kids'. Mom married Milt in 1955 and raised their children in St. Vital where she lived until 2009 when she moved to Sterling House. From Glen Avenue to her condo at Ardenberry Place and finally at Sterling House, Alice enjoyed her neighbours and made many good friends who appreciated her wry sense of humour. Always generous with her time and energy, Mom volunteered at a wide variety of causes important to her. Some of Alice's favourite activities included swimming, puzzles, and summer vacations at Lake Brereton. Over the years, Alice traveled often with siblings and to visit siblings. Always interested in her destination, Mom also became an avid home-town tourist. She was also thrilled to have seen the polar bears on a trip to Churchill. Grandma Alice loved spending time with her granddaughters who brought her great joy and gave her tremendous pride. She was their constant and steadfast cheerleader whether at a school event, the baseball diamond or a violin recital. For her children, Mom was understanding and patient, always there to listen and teach and love us unconditionally. A celebration of Alice's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
