My condolences to Joan and her family and to the Stasiuk family! Ever since meeting Orest at St. Vlad's College we became friends and made it as two of the 4 year boys. The experiences were many and Orest was always there for me! Especially in hockey. For most of our years Orest was the team's equipment manager and helped out on the bench. There were many times when he was always there for me again. There was as much activity on the bench as on the ice. We made it the full 4 years! And our friendship helped me through those years. And our friendship continued well after that. We usually had breakfast at St. Paul's College and made new friends because of. After university we had our jobs, and even there Orest was a really big help to me in finding new (and big) clients! We both had some big changes in our lives and were able to help one another. Then came my house building project. Orest was there almost as much as I was. It was never a problem for him! And Joan, Orest learnt one thing, he never wanted to do that again! But we both learnt what it took to build a home. And through all this he found time to help me coach a boys 14 year old hockey team. Again another invaluable experience. And we were able to do something together that we both enjoyed! Those many years we spent together went by very fast and before I knew it Orest was getting married to the love of his life! Then he just had to tell me that he's getting married and he already has two children! (as I had been married for a while and still no children). Well I had never seen Orest so happy and content! Thank-you Joan for bringing that into Orest's life! You made him complete! And your wedding day sealed the deal for Orest! He had a smile on all that day and it looks like it was right to the end as evidenced by the picture of Orest and his grandchild. Yes Orest, you win! You have had a very rich and fulfilling life. The turnout for your final day evidenced how warm hearted you were and so many lives that you touched! - Posted by: Pat Bazan (Friend) on: Aug 31, 2013

Orest, you and I did alot of business together over the years. Your integrity and honesty was second to none. I'm glad I got to know you not just as a salesman but as a great friend. I have fond memories of Orest helping my brother and others with our youth group at St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Parish in Wpg. The groups name was St. Dominic's and was pre-UCY. Dear Joan, Amber, Cameron, and Family, We wish to express our deepest sorrow and heartfelt sympathy. The news of Orest’s passing was so unexpected and shocking. I first met Orest at St. Vlad’s 43 years ago next month. I had the upper bunk that first year, while Orest had the lower one. I never got much sleep with that chainsaw running below me! Along with our friend Brian, our trio got into a lot of mischief together. But we always came out of it with minimal punishment because Orest was, well, Orest! If it wasn’t for Orest, I would never have met my wife of 34 years. It’s a long story, but we would love to tell you it some day. Needless to say, I HAD to ask Orest to be my Best Man, because he certainly was. Due to distance, our friendship faded. After all, he was a Bomber fan and I was in Rider Nation. But it never died. Our phone calls and letters became spread out by time. There were periods of years between contacts. In the last dozen years though, we rekindled our old friendship. The electronic age helped in that regard. We stayed at each others homes, making time to stop in and visit while passing through to another destination. Now he has moved on to yet another destination, a place without discomfort or distraction. - Posted by: Greg & Brenda Kitz (Friends) on: Aug 10, 2013

My friend Orest, we have been in the selling business for a long time, with many trips and trade shows all over Manitoba. I can assure you that everybody loved you and nobody had a bad word to say about you. You had a heart of gold and a personality to go with it. You will be sadly missed by your friends at Querel Trailers. Mack Trucks will never be the same without you. - Posted by: Bruce Querel and Richard Wiebe () on: Aug 09, 2013

Orest was a man that I had tremendous respect for. I could always count on him to be honest and he would always do his best to do what was right. I would call him from time to time to chat about the industry that we were both involved in and I always came away with some value out of our conversations. I will cherish those times. I pray that you as a family will find comfort in the fond memories I know you have of him. God Bless! - Posted by: John and Mathilda Fehr (Friends) on: Aug 07, 2013
