KATHLEEN (KAYE) BLAKE It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Kathleen (Kaye) Blake. Mom passed away peacefully with loving family by her side on Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Left to remember her with love are her sons Randy (Delores), Michael, Kevin, Craig (Robin) and her grandchildren whom she adored; Martin, Lauren, Clare, Andrew, Alana, Shannon and Amber. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters Pat Zalkowski and Peggy Hamilton; her sisters-in-law Audrey Cunningham, Wilma Blake, Marion McBain, her many nieces and nephews and her many dear friends. Mom was pre-deceased by her father Arthur Doland, her mother Mary Doland and her husband Gordon Blake. Mom graduated from St. John's High School and went to work at the Canadian Wheat Board. After raising her family she resumed a successful career at Mackie Data and finally retired from her position as Computer Manager at Acklands in 1993. Mom was a very giving person which was evidenced by her many hours of volunteer work at Big Brothers and Sisters of Winnipeg and Child and Family Services. She also received an award for her many donations to Canadian Blood Services. Mom went to University in her fifties and was proud to earn her Bachelor of Arts Degree. Mom enjoyed travelling to Greece, Mexico, visits to Belgium and, being so proud of her Irish roots - of course Ireland. She had such a great sense of humour and had a gift of being able to laugh at herself. Mom was an avid reader and a strong advocate for women's issues. Mom kept fit by cross-country skiing and aqua-size. She loved cats and always had one in her home. Mom was devoted to her grandchildren and enjoyed participating in all their activities. She was so proud of all their many achievements. Her youthful spirit and love of life was contagious and touched everyone she met. After her stroke, Mom had to move to a long-term care facility. She never complained or felt hard done by. Mom continued to live life to the fullest. She was loved by all at River Park Gardens holding a special place in the hearts of staff. It would be impossible to thank each one individually but we would like to let them know our Mom was extremely grateful for the compassionate care she received. Special thanks to her good friend Greita who never failed to bring a fantastic meal each week which she thoroughly enjoyed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children's Hospital (HSC). A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2013 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. "A Mother holds her childrens' hands for a short time but holds their hearts forever." We love you Mom. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • I will miss Mrs Blake. I took care of her while at Deer Lodge Centre then when River Park Gardens opened, we both went to work and live there. I enjoyed Kay, she was a very easy person to sit and chat with and have a laugh. She was a very beautiful woman who never complained. She was always a joy to be around. I'll miss you Mrs Blake. I will always remember you. - Posted by: Seanna (Nurses aide at RPG) on: Nov 09, 2013
