DONALD JOSEPH COLIN VAN DEN DRIESSCHE May 28, 1945 - August 16, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather Don, on August 16, 2013. Don was predeceased by his parents Remi and Annie Van Den Driessche. Left to cherish dads' memory are his beloved wife of 43 years Karen, his son Roddy (Angela) and adored grandchildren Noah, Montana and Aidan his son Dallas and daughter Michelle (Carl). Dad will also be missed by his brothers Phil (Gerri) and Bob, his brother and sisters-in-law, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Born and raised in Winnipeg, dad spent many of his years' operating heavy machinery and truck driving. During retirement, his joys were his grandchildren, traveling and gardening. Dad was devoted to his grandchildren and enjoyed attending all their activities. Dad had a warm smile, smart wit and infectious laugh. How lucky we were that he enjoyed spoiling us all rotten our entire lives. Don and Karen were fortunate to take many trips together around the world; Spain, Belgium, France, England, Alaska, Hawaii were among some of the trips they shared. A celebration of dads' life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Many thanks are extended to the staff on 5E at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. My Condolences to your family - Posted by: Jennifer Pattison () on: Oct 03, 2013

  • A fond memory is our nicknames for each other. Don called me "Hippie" because I was from Vancouver Island and planted the first raised bed garden he had ever seen, which he thought was neat but odd. I called him "Cowboy" because of those boots he always wore! Good friends never die. Our love to you Karen and kids xoxoxoxox - Posted by: Larry & Arlene Follestad (Friends) on: Aug 25, 2013

  • Our sincere condolences go out to you Michelle, and your family, in the passing of your Dad. We understand what you are all going through. • My prayers and thoughts are with Donnie's family. xo - Posted by: Myrna Moore (cousin) on: Aug 19, 2013

  • Donnie was such a cool guy. He was the youngest of three boys. We had six girls in my family and no boys. The three cousins were older, but never treated any of us like annoying girls. Donnie did have this great laugh and he was also a big tease. We loved to go out to Bruce Road and see the horses and the boys. My deepest sympathies go out to Karen and her family. I know how bad they are feeling right now. I didn't get to see him very much because I live in Alberta, but always know that I can count on family if anything happens. One less person now. I hope he is at peace and that the pain of losing a husband and father will lessen as time goes by. I am thinking of you and if there is anything I can do, please let me know - Posted by: EdithThiessen (cousin) on: Aug 19, 2013
