EVELYNE SAIKO (nee LAMBERT) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on September 4, 2013. Predeceased by her husband Walter in 1997, she leaves to cherish her memory Brian Saiko (Laura), Cynthia Johnson (Paul) and Adele Taylor (Bob), and grandchildren Aaron, Ryan and Lauren. Mom was born in Ste. Agathe, Manitoba in 1931, the youngest of four sisters. She was a teacher since age 17, starting in rural Manitoba, teaching many years in Winnipeg schools, and finishing as a consultant with the Bureau de l'Education Francaise. She met Wally in Fort Churchill and they married in 1956. Ev loved gardening and gambling, and enjoyed many holidays in warm climates. She will be remembered for her lively piano playing, her love of animals, having fun, and leading Sir John Franklin Community Centre Bingo for over 30 years. She spent the last seven years of her life at the Boulton Retirement Residence, where she ran the Bingo and loved to help "the old people". Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Brebeuf Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Please accept my condolences to Evelyne's children Brian, Cynthia and Adele, and her grandkids. Evelyne was a big hearted woman and generous of spirit. An adventuresome and fun loving travel companion to my mother, Eva. I know they are now enjoying each other's company in the afterlife. I want to acknowledge Evelyne's generosity of heart and know that she is now at rest. Ev, you were loved by many. - Posted by: Monica Kendel (neice - daughter of Evelyne's sister Eva) on: Sep 12, 2013

It is with great sadness that we learned tonight of Evelyne's death. We are still in Greece and therefore cannot come to celebrate her life next week. But we will be in spirit with this wonderful woman whom I have called my friend even before she came to work with me at the Bureau de l'Education francaise. Evelyne had more class, more joy, more kindness in her heart than so many of us. And the best part was that she shared this joie de vivre just as easily as she shared all she had. What a generous friend she was to those who were fortunate enough to be in her circle. She was always full of courage and hope. Words cannot express how much I will miss my beloved friend. God bless you, Evelyne. To Brian, Cynthia and Adele and family, your mom and grandmother was immensely proud of you all. She loved you all very, very much. What wonderful memories she gave us all. Please accept our most heartfelt condolences. We will speak when we return to Canada Caterina and George - Posted by: Caterina and George Sotiriadis (Friend) on: Sep 07, 2013
