Sally was born in Agno, Pangasinan, Philippines on October 22, 1917 into a family of 12 siblings. She was the first in her family to leave home to pursue higher education in Manila. Her family was proud of her ambitions, and she paved the way for her sisters to follow in her footsteps. She studied at Arellano University and graduated with a degree in education. There she met Antonio, marrying him in 1941 after four years of courtship. Sally worked in various elementary schools in Manila while raising their family. Sally and Tony immigrated to Canada in 1968. She worked as a physical education teacher at Dryden High School, at Misericordia Hospital and eventually retired from Tache Nursing Home at the age of 70. "Mama Sal" enjoyed travelling to the Philippines, Europe, California, Chicago and Alberta to visit relatives. When she wasn't travelling, she could be found working in her garden, playing Mahjong and enjoying her favourite television shows, "The Young and the Restless" and "Family Feud". Hosting parties in her home was also a highlight in her life. Sally was a warm and loving person who made family her priority. She is remembered for her strength and compassion. Spending time with her immediate and extended family, especially the family's young ones, was her greatest enjoyment. The family extends their thanks to the home care staff and all the past and current caregivers for their compassionate care and kindness. Mama always has a ready smile and we admired her sharp memory. After so many years of not seeing her (on her 95th birthday) she mentioned our names without hesitations. - Posted by: Tito & Nila Alejandria (Old time friend) on: Sep 28, 2013
