SIMONE BLANCHE MARIE KONOWALCHUK (nee RODRIGUE) October 17, 1942 - September 27, 2013 Simone Konowalchuk (nee Rodrigue) passed in peace at Victoria General Hospital, with her son David and other family members supporting her during her final journey. She will be missed by her son and daughter-in-law David and Belinda, grandson Derek and granddaughter Robyn Konowalchuk (Andrew Cederholm), all of Penticton, BC. She is also survived by her sister Josette Duprat, and brother Gerard (Maureen) Rodrigue of Winnipeg, and brother Bernard (Louise) Rodrigue of Brandon. She also leaves behind 10 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and nephews, and many extended family and friends. Simone, the eldest of four children of the late Joseph and Leona Rodrigue, was born and raised in St. Boniface. She lived in Winnipeg all her life and worked the majority of her career in the Chaplain's Office at Air Command Centre in the Department of Defence before retirement in 2007. Simone believed that one of the best things that ever happened to her in her life was the birth of her son David. When he was fairly young, she became a single parent and though there were some hard times and the occasional misadventure, her pride in, and love for David, daughter-in-law Belinda, and grandchildren Derek and Robyn, was boundless and defined who she was. She took delight in the activities and successes of her immediate and extended family but would also assume the burden of their losses or failures. Simone cherished all the family gatherings that provided her the opportunity to interact with grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She never forgot the birthday or anniversary of any family member. Family meant everything to Simone. Simone's faith was an essential part of who she was and in Simone we lost a rare soul. She left us way too early and will be dearly missed. A family service at the Parish of St. Timothy in St. Vital has taken place. In lieu of flowers, a donation to CancerCare Manitoba or to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated. Michele said it best. A wonderful tribute. And I'm not being flippant when I say "hear, hear!". - Posted by: Linda Parnell-Bonnie (Friend from work) on: Apr 14, 2015

Every time I phone the base I think of Simone, as her voice answers the general number; it seems like a little bit of her stayed behind after she retired. Simone was a tremendous woman in all of the ways that count; her huge smile, big laugh and tremendous heart make her very memorable to me. I can still hear her saying "Oh, Michele!" in that way she had when she thought I needed to be brought back into line. She spoke often, fondly and with complete love of your family - David and Belinda, Robyn and Derek, Gerry, Maureen, Bernie, Josette, Louise....and all of her nieces and nephews, and, of course, the babies. I remember her with the greatest of affection, and honestly believe that the world is a much better place for her having been in it. I wish to pass on my sincere condolences, and to make sure you all know that she is still loved and remembered even outside of your family. - Posted by: Michele Geiger-Wolf (Friend from work) on: Oct 08, 2013
