RANDALL BETTS October 27, 1965 - October 5, 2013 With the heaviest of hearts, we are saddened to announce that Randy lost his battle with AML on Saturday, October 5, 2013. Left to forever cherish his memory are his two favourite girls, his wife and soulmate Jo and his baby girl Zoey, a.k.a. Sweets as Randy would call her. Also mourning are his mother Shirley, his siblings Ken Betts, Jeff and Karen, Chris and Nancy, and Mark. His in-laws Colleen and Bob, Bruce and Cindy, and Karen and Mitch. His nieces and nephews, whom he absolutely adored, Dan, Jamie, Steve, Jay, Ashley, Colin, Brody, and his little angel Abby. As well as his loving aunts and uncles, cousins and many, many great friends! Randy was predeceased by his father Gord, his father and mother-in-law Ed and Lorraine, his cousin Dean and too many great friends. Randy lived a simple life. A good card game, a good ride, a beer in the sand or just having lots of laughs with great friends is all he needed. He cared more than most and would give the shirt off his back to anyone that needed it. That was just how incredible Randy was! His witt and sass was always outstanding and he was the life of every party. Just something about him made you laugh and smile every day. Randy was employed at CNR for 29 years and was so honoured to consider so many of his co-workers as some of his closest friends. He fought a long hard battle with so much dignity and courage and I just want to thank you Hun for teaching me the true meaning of life. You will be in my heart forever and ever. I love you so much, Jo. A special thank you to the amazing staff at Health Sciences Centre, D6, the resort as Randy referred to it, CancerCare Clinic 4, the treatment room, Riverview, 3E and the donor of Randy's stem cells, you are all very special people and Randy and I are forever grateful. To our rock Ken Betts, you climbed mountains with Randy and I. Words can never express enough of our love and gratitude. The three amigos forever. A celebration of Randy's incredible life full of great family and friends will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2013 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. and will be followed with a party at Randy's request to be held at Doubles Fun Club with him and his Harley. Please dress casual, nothing fancy. A Harley shirt worn proud and a pair of jeans is all Randy would ask for. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to AML Research, CancerCare Manitoba, or consider donating blood. Randy was so much in awe of the people who donated the blood he needed to stay alive and to him that was the coolest gift in life to give. I am very sad to learn of the passing of my childhood friend. I have many fond memories of Randy and I when we were still learning about life. Rest in peace buddy. - Posted by: Michael Krawec (School mate and old friend) on: Mar 25, 2015

It is so incredibly random how I came across this obit, Kenny was my first boyfriend in middle school and the only other 12 year old I knew who watched Monty Python and SNL and the sweetest kid I remember from my Victor Wyatt years. I remember Randy as his cool, cute older brother with his great red hair and jean jackets. I don't believe in coincidences so I wanted to be sure to let you know how sorry I am for your loss. I've had to do that bittersweet slow hospital dance with too many loved ones, my condolences to you Ken and your family - Posted by: Joelle Malan Chelkowski () on: Jan 08, 2014

I went to middle school with Randy. He was the boy that all the girls wanted. I was in the out crowd. Bullied by these girls and most of the boys. Randy never said a bad word to me and was very kind. At a lunchtime dance I sat at my desk wishing I could go home. Randy asked me to dance. It was a long song and all those girls just stared in shock. He told me I was pretty and to ignore those girls. Thank you Randy for being the first boy to tell me I was pretty. My brother, Peter, also passed away young. Ride free..... Our deepest sympathy to the Betts family. Personal wealth should not be how much you left behind rather who you left behind. The people whose lives you have touched and somehow made a little bit brighter. Those who truly cared and will miss you when you are gone. Randy is the richest man we will ever know and will forever be remembered for the person he is. Thank you Randy for being a part of our lives, thank you Jo for sharing him with everyone. - Posted by: Ness family (Friend) on: Oct 12, 2013

Jo Anne, I write this with heart felt sympathy. You and Randy were a perfect fit made especially for each other by God. Two of the most generous and loving people i have know. You always put in countless hours working as a union rep for all of our benefits. Randy was so supportive i remember when you ran for a union position Randy showed up with an RV supporting your position Randy was such a pillar of support for all of us that year. I remember both of you at my wedding and not long after it was your wedding. Randy had incredible strength and fought his battle in a warrior fashion, You too are a pillar of strength and the love you two shared will last for eternity. You and the Betts family are in my thought and prayers. God bless you my friend. - Posted by: Heather Prydun (Co Worker to Jo Anne) on: Oct 09, 2013

Randy was just an awesome guy, I remember having a party at doubles when me and Jessie moved out east for a short stint..during this party a tribute song came on for us as announced by the d.j., it was Randy's doing, the song was "on a jet plane"...he was smiling ear to ear...go on guys dance for us,, we did and both cried ..I could see him watching us.. Randy of course offered us a ride to airport in the days that followed since we had a ton of stuff..he showed up at our place at 5:00 am, where he helped us load up his truck and off we went..after unloading and checking in Randy pulled a newspaper out of his jacket and handed it over to us and said "don't forget this place and don't forget about us"...we will never forget you Randy...love Pete and Jessie - Posted by: Peter & Jessie Russo (Friend ) on: Oct 09, 2013

Dear Joanne, I am writing you today to offer my condolences. I am so sorry to hear that Randy lost his battle with AML. But it is not only my sympathy that I wish to offer today…I also wish to take a few moments to tell you how much you and Randy both touched my life and left an everlasting mark on my heart. This letter has been a long time coming as I have written it over and over again in my head since the night of the fundraising social this winter. What a great night! One where all of your family and friends came together to show their love and support. I think what really hit me was when Randy said: I have the BEST friends in the world! He seemed overwhelmed by the love he felt from all of those present. I, on the other hand, was not at all surprised. You are two of the kindest, most generous people I have ever known. You welcome everyone into your lives with open arms and open hearts. The presence and support of all these people during difficult times is a testament of who you and Randy both are. You should be proud of all that. That is Randy’s legacy…his mark on this world. And what a wonderful world we would live in if everyone could be half as kind as Randy was. He will be missed by many as he has been loved by many. Thank you for sharing him with us…you are in our thoughts and prayers.
