CATHERINA (CATIE) VANDENBERG With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother Catie Vandenberg on November 3, 2013. She was 82 years old. Catie fought a long, brave battle with cancer. Several times the doctors and nurses thought she had only weeks or hours to live but she always rallied back. This last time even she couldn't manage it. The family wishes to say a special thank you to the caring staff at Riverview Health Centre. Catie is predeceased by Theo, her husband of 57 years. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Hedi (Pat), Fran (Roy), Carol (Terry) and sons Henry (Jan), John (Sharon), Ted (Kerri) and Peter (Angela). She was a loving oma to grandchildren, Brett (Tamara), Taya, Andrew, James, Jane, Matthew, Karrissa, Evan, Laura, Cate and Laine and great-grandma to Emily. Catie was born and raised in Gemert, Holland. She married Theo in 1951 and immigrated to Canada the following year. They raised seven children of whom they were extremely proud. Theo and Catie spent many happy years at their cottage at Patricia Beach. Catie enjoyed gardening and it was always possible to brighten her day with flowers. After Theo passed away she found a new "family" among her friends at Concordia Village. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or another charity of your choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I will truly miss Katie's beaming smile, her beautiful stories as a child and raising her children to be such loving and compassionate care for Katie. She often said how proud she was of each and everyone of you. Finally, I will always remember one if the most funniest thing she would say (with only a little prompting :) "if you ain't Dutch, you ain't much!" LoL !! Take care - Posted by: Caroline (Caregiver) on: Nov 07, 2013
