PATRICK WALTERS Pat passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the St. Boniface Hospital on Friday, November 15, 2013, at age 76. Pat will be deeply missed by Eileen, his wife of 54 years, son Michael and daughter-in-law Tess, daughter Lesley and son-in-law Hakim Sagher, and his three grandchildren, whom he adored, Shada, Noelle, and Ayden Sagher, sister Arlene (Roger) Starr and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pat was born in Winnipeg on January 27, 1937 to Aquin and Leslie Walters. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Lorraine, and her husband Ed Applin. When Pat and Eileen married in 1959, they resided in St. Vital and then in 1960 moved into their new house on Brereton Road in Southdale. After living there for 18 years, they followed their longtime desire to live in the country and moved on to five and one half acres in Ile Des Chenes. These were the years he enjoyed the most, growing Colorado Spruce from seed for sale, riding his tractor, growing vegetables and raising pigeons, chickens, pheasants, geese and even a couple of peacocks, along with dogs and a cat. Pat was employed by the C.N. for 38 years until his early retirement in January, 1992. He first worked as an electrician and was active in the union, becoming their recording Secretary. Later he acquired a B.A. in Economics by going to university at night, which led to management opportunities, his last position being Equipment Officer in the Equipment Department in Symington Yards. Pat gave his all to his job, going above and beyond the call of duty. He was highly regarded by his co-workers and kept in touch with many. They will miss him this year at the retirees Christmas lunch at the Granite Club. Pat was a longtime friend of "Bill" and made many good friends over these 40 plus years. He was grateful for all those who cared about him and helped him along the way. Pat was a private, quiet man who was extremely witty with a dry sense of humour and he will leave an empty space in our hearts forever. Many thanks to the St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Department and E2 Intensive Care staff. A small private gathering will be held for family and close friends on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road. Flowers gratefully declined. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
