Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN CHERVINSKI 1933 - 2013 Peacefully, in his sleep, John passed away on November 29, 2013 at Parkview Place. John was predeceased by his parents Frank and Polly. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley. He is also survived by his three sons, Randy (Tracey), Doug (Marianne) and Dave (Annette) and his precious granddaughters, Lauren, Riley, Jessica and Becky and his sister Anne Zaharia. John was born on September 28, 1933. He lived his entire life in Transcona where he attended Central School and in 1950 began work at C.N.R. as a Carman apprentice, eventually retiring in 1992. John was actively involved in his community. He coached baseball and hockey and spent countless hours volunteering at the Maple Leaf Community Club. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. He was always there for his sons, attending all of their sporting events, rarely missing a game or practice. He welcomed three daughters-in-law into the family and then came his pride and joy, his four granddaughters. Papa loved his girls. He was always there to support them at soccer and hockey games and dance recitals. He loved when they would come for sleep-overs and even when they got older, would ask when they were coming over to stay with Baba. His favourite times were when the family was together at dinners, birthday parties or other special occasions. Even in his last few weeks, when he had visitors, his first questions were about how his girls were doing. He will be greatly missed. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Parkview Place. Although he was only there for a few short weeks, they made him feel welcome and treated him and the family with dignity and respect. Special thanks to dad's respite worker Armando for the care he provided dad. Thursdays were always a treat for both mom and dad when Armando was over at their house. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West. Reverend Jeff Cook officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Transcona Memorial United Church. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

John, also known as "The Boss", supervised me and several other young Transcona misfits as we maintained the old Maple Leaf Community Club. He was a real genuine person who treated everyone as a friend no matter if they were young or old. His commitment to the community was exceptional and he will be missed. I am proud to have known him and to have his influence in my life. My heartfelt condolence to Mrs. Boss and entire family. - Posted by: Paul Schmidt (Friend through Mape Leaf Community Club) on: Dec 03, 2013
