THOMAS WILSON On December 3, 2013, Tom Wilson, our father, grandpa and great-grandpa, passed away at the age of 84 with family by his side. While we are deeply saddened by our loss, we are forever grateful for the "perfect week" we were given at the end of his life - a week full of family, love, sharing and story-telling at the home of his son, Bill. Thomas McDonald entered this world on October 30, 1929, son of Robert and Hannah Wilson and brother to Bob, Reg, and Bud. He was raised in Winnipeg, attending school in the West End, before beginning his career at CNR. He remained there until his retirement, taking great pride in his job as a carman. Marrying Yvonne Wiley in 1955, they raised five children in a modest home in Windsor Park. We lost Mom five years ago, Dad missed her terribly - we take great comfort in knowing they are together again. Known for his quick wit and love of all things "punny", Dad loved to get a laugh out of people, from family to strangers. Shy and soft spoken by nature, humour was the language that connected him with all he met. We can't think of Dad without the image of him helplessly giggling with laughter at a joke he had just cracked. He was a master of words, completing the crossword puzzle in pen every day and taking all comers in a cut-throat game of scrabble. He read the paper from front to back every day, and we all knew if we were coming to the cottage that we had to stop for both papers on the way. He lived for his family and was a constant presence in his children's and grandchildren's sports practices, games and competitions, concerts and band performances. We will miss your quiet encouragement and support. He loved life at the Lac du Bonnet cottage - from the additions he and his family made to accommodate the growing family, to boat rides and water skiing to fishing and sitting on the dock. The cottage was the summer hub for family and was just one of the many ways he and Mom created a family so incredibly close that all occasions called for a get-together. This will remain your loving gift to us all. Perhaps one of his greatest loves - if not the greatest - was his love of sports: hockey, curling and football in particular. We were so pleased that he was able to watch curling and a Winnipeg Jets win just prior to his passing. The family would like to acknowledge three special friends of Dad's: Arnie, Henry and Carol. The wonderful friendship and support you provided to Dad over the years meant so much to him and to us as well. Dad didn't want his passing to be a time of sadness - rather he asked us to remember his life with fondness and to continue to let laughter ring out in our lives. Dad is survived by his brother Reg Wilson, children Colleen, Tom (Colette), Donna (Don), Bill (Janice) and Wayne (Collette) as well as 13 grandchildren: Rebecca, Colin, Samantha (Nolan), Adam, David, Stephanie (Rheal), Joanne, Kimberly, Michael, Erica (Ryan), Serena, Matthew and Sarah; and great-grandchildren Jayden, Mason and Kieran. He was predeceased by his loving wife Yvonne, brothers Bob and Bud, and his parents. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2013, at the Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive. Flowers gratefully declined; donations made be made to Winnipeg Humane Society. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

As the only one in the family who was shorter than he was, I was always referred to as "Hey, Shorty", with a smile on his face and much pleasure. I rarely remember Uncle Tommy calling me by my first name. I will miss him more than words can say. - Posted by: Evelyn Vogel (Niece) on: Dec 08, 2013

My love and deepest sympathy go out to all of you. My Uncle Tom, or "Tommy" as everyone called him, is remembered as always having a smile..a grin like he was enjoying a joke and just waiting to tell it. He had a twinkle in his eyes. Every time my dad, Reg, and Uncle Tom were together there was always a reference to who was taller, it was a family gag. I know you will all miss him so very much, but what a legacy he and your mom have left..A wonderful, close knit family who are all kind and generous and full of fun and share great love for each other. - Posted by: Deb McCormick (Niece) on: Dec 07, 2013

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Bill. We always remember the summer of 1988, when your mom & dad let us stay at their house while they were at the cottage for the summer. We were down from Gillam on a temporary assignment from Manitoba Hydro. Their openess and hospitality were greatly appreciated. Praying for you all. - Posted by: Warren and Shelley Erickson (Friends of Bill and Janice) on: Dec 07, 2013
