Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • I met Chris while at MSUM and we quickly became friends. He introduced me to his favorite Canadian bands and punk rock, and was a fixture in my early college years. We kept in touch now and again on Facebook and chatted a bit there. He was a sweet, caring kid, exactly the kind of person you'd want to call your son. My best wishes to his family and friends. - Posted by: Brett Ortler (Friend) on: Feb 24, 2014

  • I am stunned and deeply saddened to hear of Chris's passing. I got to know Chris very well while he was in school at MSU. He frequently dropped by my office to discuss something he read, or thought of, or to inform me of some new music he had heard, or just to talk about life. He was always engaged and engaging and I very much enjoyed his company. In fact, Chris is one of the most memorable students I have had in a long career of college teaching, and I mean that in the most positive way. Kent and Diane, I am sorry we never met, but I can tell you that I am very glad to have known your son. As I know you know, he was a very, very good person. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. - Posted by: Michael Hughe (Professor/friend) on: Feb 22, 2014

  • Chris was a most memorable student and friend. We literally spent hours during the course of his tenure at MSUM discussing the finer points of sociological theory, music, religion or whatever was on his mind at the time. Although he majored in communications, Chris enjoyed his sociology classes and was a beloved presence in the SOC Department. I am deeply saddened by his loss and I extend heartfelt condolences to his family on behalf of his former professors. My indelible memories of Chris are these: His love for knowledge, passion for music (I will never listen to Franz Ferdinand w/o thinking of Chris who introduced me to this band), zest for life and ever-present smile. So long, dear friend... - Posted by: Lee Vigilant (Professor/MSUM) on: Feb 21, 2014

  • I just heard about this from a mutual friend. I met Chris my freshman year at MSUM. We dated for almost a year and a half and remained friends after that. I hadn't spoken to Chris in quite a while and he messaged me out of the blue in November. I'm glad I got the chance to message with him before he passed. I'm thankful for the time I knew Chris. I'm very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Kristin Olson (Friend) on: Feb 21, 2014

  • I met Chris at MSUM. We only had the chance to hang out a few times here and there but we had stayed in contact throughout the years online. He was always so positive. He used to share some good music with me and he grew to be such a good constant in my life. I felt like he was always around. I think about him often. Chris was truly an amazing and unique person and I am so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Jill (Friend) on: Jan 19, 2014
