MARION GLADYS DEMETRIOFF (nee HALL) It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear Mother, Granny and Great-Granny, Marion Demetrioff at the Concordia Bethania Personal Care Home on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the age of 93 years. Marion will be lovingly remembered by her children; Judy (Norm), Gregg (Joan), Grant (Nina), her grandchildren; Meredith (Paul), Matthew (Tammy), Trisha (Jeff), Rick (Sabrina) and Jazz, along with five great-grandchildren; Cameron, Liam, Nicholas, Hailey and Kyah. Marion was predeceased by her husband Mike in 1993. She was the last of five siblings; Stanley, Clarence, Bea and Mable. Marion was born in St. Boniface and, with Mike, raised their family in that same area. Marion was an avid sportswoman and participated in many sporting activities throughout her life. She played for a number of ladies softball teams with her sisters over the years, culminating with a team trip to play in Madison Square Gardens, NY in 1945. She was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003. Following marriage and children, Marion continued to keep active. She bowled in a league at Windsor Park Lanes for many years, loved fishing, curling at the Heather Curling Club, swam regularly at the Bonivital Pool and enjoyed walking with her dog Pepper. Marion loved gardening. Her flowers were her greatest pride, next to her family. She spent hours cultivating beautiful flowerbeds, geranium pots and cacti, and growing vegetables wherever she could plant them. Marion was the ultimate hostess who loved to entertain both family and friends for any occasion. She also enjoyed baking and had endless recipes, which she collected, tested and shared with neighbours, friends and family. She was a vibrant neighbour who easily made friends with those around her, raising the social bar in every community in which she lived. Marion's family would like to thank all the staff of the Concordia Bethania Personal Care Home for making Mom's last three years happy ones with their care and dedication to her. In accordance with Marion's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial reception celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, December 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald. In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, a donation in memory of Marion may be made to Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. • My condolences to the Demetrioff family. I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. It is difficult enough to lose our loved ones and it makes it harder around the holidays. My dad also passed away on the 15th of Dec. I have many great memories of growing up across the street from your family. Your mom and dad always made me feel special. Always a story to be told by your dad and your mom always had a little something that she had baked or candies. Years later the trend continued with my children. They truly were beautiful people and I am lucky to have had them in my life. Our deepest sympathies to you all.
