RANDALL (RANDY) WILLIAM REID It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce that our beloved husband, son and brother, Randy Reid, aged 60, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by wife Mary Jane Reid, parents Bill and June Reid, brother Danny Reid (Karen, Janine, Jeremy) and sister Maureen Ewert (Jim, Grant). Randy obtained a Master's Degree in Physical Education at Lakehead University, and went on to become a beloved teacher and mentor to students and colleagues in Winnipeg for over 30 years. He was a superb athlete, lettering in university hockey and soccer, and coached hockey, curling and volleyball. Randy grew up on Lake of the Woods and became an avid fisherman and hunter, both in Northwestern Ontario and in Manitoba. It was not Randy's accomplishments but who he was that defined him. Those fortunate enough to know him experienced his selfless spirit. He considered others before himself and was always there for family, friends and students alike. Please join us to honour and remember Randy at a get-together at Glen Lawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 from 2:00 4:00 p.m. Donations in Randy's memory can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or Ducks Unlimited. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Randy and his family lived next-door to mine when I was growing up in Kenora in the 1960's. I'll always remember him being like a big brother towards me, my little sister, and all the younger kids in the neighborhood. Even in his mid-teens, he was the definition of the word "gentleman". Sincere condolences to the Reid family from me and my family, the Litmans. - Posted by: Steve Litman (family friend) on: Dec 31, 2013

Randy was hired at Garden City at a time when some classes had 40 students. He instantly inherited 20 of my students. He immediately took charge of his classes, and was at home with teaching. He knew his students well, and was the nicest person in the building, every year. I asked him numerous practical questions on plumbing, building, sports, fishing, and he always had experience and superb answers. Very competent, yet so modest. He was reliable, honest, down-to-earth, and lived as though life was too short to argue. A sad and puzzling loss for many to grasp. He was much loved at the school, and I am certain that is true of other places as well. - Posted by: Bruce Christie (Former colleague) on: Dec 30, 2013

Randy was a fixture out at Roberts Lodge for most of my life. He was always there with a smiling face, a helping hand, and always welcoming! I'm so very sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with Mary Jane and the rest of his family! - Posted by: Shauna Buhr (Family friend) on: Dec 30, 2013

Randy was a beloved teacher and a remarkable colleague and dear friend to many at Garden City Collegiate. His love of nature enabled him to have a connecting bond to former and present teachers, and friends. He was a part of the big picture at school, which included his participation in the intermural programs, coaching, and his strong sense of loyalty to the teaching profession. My wife {Judy} and myself, all went to Las Vegas, great fun and fond memories were had by all. Randy was the KING when it came to cribbage. He will always be the Champion!!! We are sure there are a couple of new decks, and maybe a perfect hand, waiting for him in heaven. All in all, we will miss his unselfish character and those morning talk sessions about life and sports!! God bless this great Man! You have earned your peace and place in heaven. - Posted by: Roger Bamburak (Friend, colleague,) on: Dec 30, 2013

Randy's first year of teaching at St. Norbert just happened to also be our graduating year. Dallas & I got to really know Randy after that year as he played hockey with the guys! I got the opportunity to reconnect with him the last little while as he was invited to our 35 yr class reunion. Unfortunately he was unable to attend but the phone conversations were great. Our condolences to the family and it was an honour to have had Randy as a teacher and also a friend. RIP Randy you will be missed. - Posted by: Lynne Zastre-Johnston & Dallas Johnston (former student and friend) on: Dec 30, 2013
