DAVID MARK BECK It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of David on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the age of 43. David is survived by his wife Kathy and his three children Cole, Julia and Dawson. Also his mother Linda Beck and sister Lisa Zaretski (James) plus a large extended family and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his father Ervin Beck in 1994. David was born on October 24, 1970, and was raised in East Selkirk, Manitoba, where he attended Happy Thought School until grade 10. He then went to Lord Selkirk Comprehensive High School. Dave had a very outgoing and charismatic personality which attracted and made him many great and long lasting friendships both in school and throughout his life. He worked for 13 years at Black Cat Blades in Selkirk. It was during this time that he met and married Kathy. Soon after, they were blessed with three beautiful children, Cole David, Julia Kathleen and Dawson Ervin (in honour of his dad). In the midst of raising a family with Kathy, David went back to school to upgrade his grade 12. In addition to receiving above average grades, he also earned his Journeymen's Certificate in Electrical. Despite these achievements, he loved and was more proud of his children than anything else in his life. The family would like to extend a special thank you to David's good friends Miguel Kehler and Tamara Hillius for all their help. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 6088 Hwy. 9A (just south of the Rolling Mill), Selkirk, Manitoba, with Pastor Erik Parker officiating. In lieu of flowers, sympathy can be expressed through donations to a trust fund set up for Kathy and the children at Cambrian Credit Union. David will be forever loved and never forgotten. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (28 entries)

  • So very sorry to hear about Dave's passing. Although I never really kept in touch with him I grew up with Dave right from Kindergarten to high school. Dave was truly a good guy and fun to hang around with. I can remember being really young and him calling me on the phone. I was really nervous because it was the first call I ever got but when I finally picked up the phone and he started talking to me he made me feel at ease (we were both the same age and he obviously he had talked on the phone before). You know, some of the best friends you make are the ones that you start life with and Dave was truly one of those friends. Will miss you Dave!! - Posted by: Glen Wuzinski (School friend) on: Jan 04, 2014

  • We are unable to attend the service this afternoon. Brenda, Mark & Amanda Yakel, along with David Holland, and the surviving Lefteruk family all send condolences. I'll bet Baba Lefteruk, Aunty PollyAnne & Uncle Doug Roy are all happy to see you, David. Lotsa love to you all from me & Percy. - Posted by: Caroline Stevenson (feels like family) on: Jan 03, 2014

  • My deepest sympathies to Dave's loved ones. My heart goes out to you at this hard time in your lives. Dave (Beck or Beckster, as we knew him) was such a good friend growing up in Selkirk. He was like family to us, another brother. We have many great memories and it breaks my heart we never stayed in touch, though our lives went in different directions he was someone I always considered a friend. Dave you will always be in my heart, your memory lives on and your legacy continues in your children. RIP my friend, the world will miss your awesome big hugs and that beautiful smile. • Kathy and Families, we are thinking of you, Cole, Julia and Dawson at this time of Dave's passing. Our condolences and prayers go out to all of you. - Posted by: Dale & Linda Vosper (Friends) on: Jan 02, 2014

  • I worked with Dave at Black Cat, when times would get hectic and chaotic you just had to ask Dave, how is Cathy, how are the kids doing? The air would lighten, his face brighten with a wide smile. He would share a story from home or tell of something the kids had done or said. Know that you and the kids were the sunshine in his life, his pride and truly his joy. It is best to be with those in time we hope to be with in eternity. - Posted by: Linda & Bill Haines (Former Co-Woker) on: Jan 02, 2014
