MARY ELIZABETH LAWES (nee VOKURKA) November 19, 1921 December 27, 2013 It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my mother on December 27, 2013 at Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg, MB at the age of 92. She is survived by her son Douglas William Lawes, her daughter-in-law Lisa and her grandchildren Kassie Lawes Winnipeg, Sharyl Anne Bowie (Steven), Graham Lawes, and her great-grandchildren Tyler Bowie, Brandon Bowie and Alysa Bowie all of Ontario. She was predeceased by her loving husband Douglas Lawes of many years. Her parents, Susan and William Vokurka, two sisters and one brother as well as many other relatives and friends. Mom was born in Cinobano, Czechoslovakia. She immigrated to Canada at the young age of two. She met and married Douglas at a young age and they resided in Ontario and Montreal for all of their married life. After Doug's passing, Mary moved to Winnipeg to be near her son Douglas and his family. In accordance to Mary's wishes, cremation has occurred and there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers Mary and her family would greatly appreciate donations made in her name to The Children's Wish Foundation, Manitoba Chapter, 350 St., Mary Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J2, 204-231-0797.
