Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFERNAND MARCEL GARIEPY It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Fernand Gariepy on Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 77 years. Fern was predeceased by his parents Albert and Yvonne (nee Lafond) Gariepy, brothers, Leo and Denis, and sisters, Therese, Leola, and Noella. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Evelyn; sons Rene, his children, Ryan and Kayla; Larry, his daughter, Amy Lynn; daughters Rachelle (Raymond) Frobisher, children Ashley (Jimmy) Haub, Michelle, and Julia; Lori (Ken) Rogalsky, children, Tyler, Adam, and Shawn; Cara (Shayne) Kinley, and their children, Jacob, James, and Shaylin. Also left to cherish his memory are his brother, Fr. Gilbert Gariepy, and sister Olive Fortier. Fern was born June 1, 1936 in St. Jean Baptiste and left home at age 15 to begin a career as a semi-professional hockey player in Red Lake, Ontario. A few years later he joined his brother in Saskatchewan and lived there until he moved to Winnipeg at age 19. It was in Winnipeg where he met the love of his life, Evelyn McConkey, they were married in 1959, and settled in St. Vital where they raised their five children. Dad started his career with Furnasman and Winnipeg Supply and decided to start his own company in 1971, Fern Gariepy's Heating and Air Conditioning Limited. He was well known for his yellow van in St. Vital, as well as his 24 hour work schedule as he refused to leave anyone without heat. Dad had many interests, but his favourite ones were the interests of his children, he loved to watch his sons play hockey, his daughters play baseball, lake life and snowmobiling. When his daughter developed a love for horses, he purchased an acreage farm home and spent his time tending to the farm, caring for the horses and attending countless horse shows. Dad was known for his contagious laugh and love of life, everything he did was with a charm that allowed him to go through life and be who he wanted to be. He did things his way, and lived that way right until the very end. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Victoria Hospital for the care and compassion given to Fern while in their care. We would also like to thank our mother for her strength during this difficult time, her love and dedication to our dad and to our family will never be forgotten, we love you mom! In keeping with Fern's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Emile Church, 556 St. Anne's Road. Till we meet again, May God bless you and keep you in His care. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 204-253-5086

My sincerest sympathies to the entire clan of Gariepys, Unlcle Fern was a great man and was loved tremendously by myself and little brothers, his sense of humour was impeccable and devotion to helping others obvious. I still remember a time where he and Rene were working at my Aunt Paulette Ayotte's place on Linwood and as the practical jokers were checking her gas fireplace, Unlcle Fern spotted a foolish and dangerously installed fitting and asked Rene to call out the number of the Gas Ticket which had approved inspection, Rene called out a ticket number and the look on Uncle Ferns face was priceless, "Bain Tabernacle, thats my number, mon Christ toi" We all howled and still laugh about it to this day. Rest in peace Uncle Fern. - Posted by: Paul Ayotte Jr (Great-Nephew) on: Jan 10, 2014

Deepest Sympathy to you and your family, Father Gariepy, in the loss of Fernand. Along with Gerry Clement and Luke Clement from Calgary you visited my home in St. Vital about 2008. I continue to collect Clement Family information so many names are familiar to me. I am the widow of Venance & Marie-Flore's son Lucien. Luc and I had 2 children Rochelle and Alain. On January 3 at 1:07 PM Rochelle gave birth to her second child. If only Zotique knew how branched out his off-spring have become! - Posted by: Bonnie Clement ('cousin\) on: Jan 08, 2014

Fern attended to my home many times, some at odd hours. We always had stories to exchange while he fixed my household problem. I will miss his service attitude, which is becoming more scarce these days with large corporations running the show. Rest in Peace Fern. - Posted by: Roger Leuzinger (Friend and Many years a client) on: Jan 07, 2014
