LEE MARSHALL SANDERS It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Lee Sanders in Palm Springs, California, at the age of 23 years, due to complications of acutely recurrent leukemia on Sunday, January 12, 2014. Mourned by his father Robert, loving sister Mary, grandmother Marjorie Sanders of Manitou, grandfather Maurice Skuba of Kelowna and extended family, particularly aunt Mary and uncle Michael Woloski and their children Rachel and John of Virginia. He is also survived by his second family in the Deaf Community of Winnipeg, Kenneth and Jasenka Dans and their children. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane, grandfather, Cecil Sanders and grandmother Frances Skuba. Lee was born to face many medical challenges. Despite this he always had a smile. Sometimes this meant mischief but usually it just went with his sunny disposition. He persevered through open heart surgery, a broken neck and H1N1 but finally faced a disease he could not overcome. Born deaf he attended Sign Talk Day Care and then Manitoba School for the Deaf where ASL became his language. He loved his teachers, his classmates and the social life at school where he enjoyed great times on stage and in the gym. Swimming was his favourite thing. He was still in the pool in California in December. Summers at Lac du Bonnet building a cabin with Ken and Jasenka were the highlight of the last couple of years. His families would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Desert Regional Medical Center for their care. A memorial service celebrating Lee's life will be held in the Forrest Nickerson Theatre, Deaf Centre Manitoba, 285 Pembina Highway at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 204-253-5086
