Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Remember back in the early 60s going over to John's house to watch Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday evenings and in later years going to University of Brandon with John. He was very gifted with intelligence and got to write the Objibway Language for the university with John. He always showed everyone respect and he was truly a good person. RIP John. - Posted by: doug fontaine (neighbour) on: Jan 30, 2014

  • Tribute to my Uncle John A. Courchene for his undaunting fight for the Treaties, Traditional Territory, Indigenous peoples self-determination, and revenue sharing. He constantly reminded both young and old not to forget about these important matters as it affects the present and future generations of the Anishinaabek. He always fought for the truth and certainly was in it for the long haul reciting the Treaties "as long as the sunshines, the grass grows, and the rivers flow" so too will be his memory of those who loved him and still love him dearly. He was always up for a good fact based argument and in this was part of his teachings and wisdom. A true spiritual warrior right to his very last breath. I humbly thank you with heartfelt emotion all that you have taught me. Love always your Niece. RIP, until we meet again. - Posted by: Marissa Fontaine (Niece) on: Jan 27, 2014
