ALLAN LAURENCE TILLENIUS 1921-2014 On Sunday, January 26, Allan passed away peacefully at Red River Place, Selkirk MB. He is survived by his nephews Homer, Clinton and Richard Tillenius, his great-nieces Lana Schu, Naomi Ratushniak and Judy Pelham; great- nephews Brett Collins and Alan Akre and great- great-nephews Tyler and Braydon Collins and great-great-niece Karina Schu. Allan grew up on the family farm in the Interlake and then operated his own farm north of Sandridge, Manitoba until 2007. Allan was an Interlake cattle farmer but in the early years also raised sheep and chickens, along with his first love horses. Allan was the hardest worker we ever knew; loved the farm and said he wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Uncle Allan was recognized for his patience and humour but could be stubborn when he needed to be. He always had a sense of fairness to everyone and was known for helping strangers without ever expecting anything in return. Allan retired from farming at the age of 86 and then spent his later years residing in Teulon and Red River place in Selkirk. Uncle Allan was a man of few words but when he spoke everyone wanted to stop and listen. He was always sharp as a tack and although he lived on the farm by himself it was his passion to keep up with the current events. You knew he would be interested in discussing the Blue Bombers or the Winnipeg Jets at any time. Uncle Allan's first concern for visitors on the farm was always "safety first" but after that it was to make sure that we would experience the real farm environment - being mindful of the cow pies and to keep in front of the horses. He had a tremendous memory and work always came first. He treated his 1970 Ford Truck like a baby and cherished the 100 year old cow bells with respect. Allan always looked forward to Wilma's Sausage casseroles and Flin Flon Pickerel. Uncle Allan loved taking his family on the trail rides for the Children's Wish Foundation and in 2005 he pointed out to his great-great- niece that they were traveling on the same trail that his parents did when first claiming the homeland in 1905. Uncle Allan also enjoyed the parade at the 100 year Inwood celebration with his great-great-nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Red River place for helping Allan feel comfortable with his new surroundings. A private family interment will be held in June at the Inwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Mackenzie Funeral Home 204-467-2525.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Allan certainly did have a wonderful memory of the good ole days. I was fortunate to spend some time with him a few years ago we talked about our families starting out in Sweden and ending up in Canada. He had all the dates and names of everyone when he told me some of the stories, I felt that I was there as everything was so clear and interesting. For a few years after that we were pen pals I would send him the questions and he would reply with the answers. I am going to miss him and the stories, it is too bad that his story was never written, he was a amazing man. So thank you Allan for sharing.
