ELEANOR POLLOCK Eleanor Pollock passed away peacefully, surrounded by friends, on February 23, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on November 3, 1922 in Winnipeg, the seventh child of Nicholas and Martha Pollock. Eleanor graduated from Kelvin High School, she enjoyed school, making many friends who she kept in touch with for many years. During the war years she worked at a wartime plant in Fort Frances, returning to Winnipeg at the end of the war, she went on to work for Brathwaite's Limited, a wholesale drug distributor, as both a bookkeeper and a salesperson. Eleanor traveled all throughout rural Manitoba making sales calls to all the local drug stores and pharmacies. This was something that women did not do in the 1950s and 1960s, she was truly a groundbreaker. Eleanor remained with Brathwaite's all her working life, making many friends and developing a close family friendship with her employer, the Chipman family. Eleanor never married and spent her life working with the attitude that there was only one way to do things and that was the correct way. Eleanor was very demanding of herself at work, and could be demanding of those who she worked with. Her free time was spent looking after her parents as they got older, and also caring for her sister Florence as she aged as well. She was a very caring person always ready to help others. She enjoyed her trips to Vancouver to visit her sister Lillian, and the many years she spent during the winter months at her home in Phoenix, Arizona, where she also made many friends. Eleanor was a wonderful gal and we will not be able to replace her. She is survived by her brother Bill in Monaco and her sister Marjorie in Minneapolis, as well as her nieces and nephews in Vancouver. A Funeral service celebrating Eleanor's life will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J Coutu & Co. Funeral Directors 680 Archibald Street 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.com

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I feel blessed to have known and worked with Eleanor at Brathwaites Olivier or now it is called BOMImed. Eleanor actually was one of the investors in BOMImed in the early years and I learned quite a lot from this incredibly strong woman. She had a great work ethic even in her late 60's! She was hard working and expected everyone around her to work hard also. Integrity, honesty, loyal, quick witted, are just a few words that best describe her. She believed in my company and I truly see her as a founding member and one I will always remember. I wish I could be at the funeral but am out of the country. She had a great life and one that she could be proud of! I think of her often. - Posted by: David Olivier (Friend and co-worker) on: Mar 07, 2014
