JOHN (DIXY) LORY RENOUF
Born: Dec 29, 1958
Date of Passing: Mar 05, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (DIXY) LORY RENOUF December 29, 1958 - March 5, 2014 The family of John (Dixy) Lory Renouf would like to announce that on March 5, 2014, the Lord Jesus Christ reached down and ushered Dixy into his eternal reward in heaven, nine months after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. He peacefully took his last breath in the comfort of his own home in the arms of his loving wife. Dixy's attitude from the beginning was one of strength - never fearing. He always felt peace that he was prepared for whatever the perfect will of God was for his life. Left to mourn his passing is his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Jean Renouf, son Kyle (Biljana), daughter Amber (Trevor), mother-in-law Jean Sargent, father-in-law Horace Kimber, siblings Bill (Sandy), Tony, Rose (Jeff), Lorne (Christina), and Al; brothers and sisters-in-law David, Joan (Bernie), Fran and Kathy; nieces and nephews Shirley (Earl), Sabrina, William (Heidi), Jason, Nathan, Natasha, Jessica, Katie, Bryton, Zachary, Jenna, Dustin, Danny, Cora (Jon), Charlie, Nicky, Dawnya, Isiah, Ryan (Jelena), Erik (Jennilee) and their families, and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his father Charles Renouf, mother Rose Renouf, and brother-in-law Doug Youngson. Dixy was a devoted and loving family man. His great love for his wife was evident in all his thoughtful words and deeds. He was her biggest fan, always encouraging her to reach for higher goals. His two children were the apples of his eye and he often expressed how proud he was of them and the strong, courageous young adults they had become. He took great pleasure on his days off work to pop in and visit them at their workplaces and take them for an impromptu lunch. He was born in Stephenville Crossing, Newfoundland and was always proud to be a "Newfie". Growing up in the unique culture of Newfoundland had a profound influence in developing Dixy's wonderful sense of humour and kindhearted personality. His love and respect for the ocean drew him to spend several years in the Navy at the young age of 19. His love for his Saviour Jesus Christ was foremost in his life and influenced everything he did. Dixy had a great talent for story-telling and humour and on many occasions he was the guest of honour to perform a comedy act at various functions. He was also a talented writer and poet and enjoyed writing screen plays and short movies. He was a member of Toast Masters for several years and won many awards in speech competitions. Dixy was an avid reader and it was very difficult to find a subject that he wasn't able to contribute valuable insight and information on. His easygoing, fun and forgiving personality was contagious and naturally drew people to him. Dixy always had a love for motorcycles and he and Jean enjoyed traveling on their Gold Wing. He worked as a professional bus operator since 1985, first for Grey Goose and later, Greyhound. He was well respected and liked by his fellow workers and management. His kind and helpful nature was always appreciated by his passengers. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014 at Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd. A private family interment will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Special thanks to our family and many friends who stood by us from the beginning by faithfully supporting us through prayer, hugs, tears, encouraging words and in so many other tangible ways. Also special thanks to Pastor Bruce Adams, Dr. Garry Schroeder, our work colleagues, Richard the nurse and the other Home Care doctors, nurses and health care aides for their wonderful care. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Dixie, you were one of those rare people who radiated sunshine and positive vibes with anyone who came in contact with you. The first time I met you at Grey Goose, you had at least a half dozen jokes and a great big smile. I was so sad to hear of your illness and your passing. It had been a long time since I last saw you but I will remember you and those crazy newfie jokes! The world needs more Dixies that's for sure. - Posted by: tim sullivan (coworker (greygoose)) on: Apr 02, 2014

I met Dixie about 17 yrs. ago. He used to stop in our little town of Lundar on his bus routes. He drove almost every time I took the bus. He even helped me with my homework when he had longer stops. Throughout the years, we became good friends and would visit when he had time. During the rides between Lundar and Winnipeg he had such great stories to tell of different trips he had been on with the family. He gave great advice as well and helped me become the success I am today. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Charlotte Jessamine (Friend of Dixie) on: Mar 12, 2014

Dixie & I worked together for many years, he was an excellent fellow worker & friend, I will ever remember the many years we worked on the same route & the times we spent together in conversation of our home province (Newfoundland). I had the pleasure of meeting Dixy when I became friends with his daughter Amber almost ten years ago. Amber is an amazing reflection of her mother and father! I've never seen a husband and wife love each other more than they loved each other. Dixy always treated myself and my children with open and warm loving arms. You never felt awkward or alone around him, he always makes you feel warm and safe. We will miss you Dixy. You're a great man! - Posted by: Leah Cathro (Friend of dixy s daughter) on: Mar 10, 2014

I was grateful to have been able to visit Dixy at the hospital in November. He was completely lucid and in good spirits, even knowing the fate he was facing. That was the last time I saw him and it was nice to have visited with him. Dixy also worked with my dad and had numerous supportive conversations with me about my dad after he passed away. I hope he is up there right now visiting with my dad and filling him in on the Greyhound world. Rest in Peace "my son, my son" - Posted by: Kevin Smith (Friend/colleague) on: Mar 09, 2014

Dixie was a great friend of mine for more than forty years. Even though he left the island when he was a young man he did make occasional visits back to visit family and friends frequently as he possibly could. When I knew he was in town I would always make sure to visit, but in the last few years we got to get together a little more often and kept in touch a little more. One of the times which was the last time I saw him was when I drove to nl from Alberta and stopped in to Winnipeg and spent the night with him and his family which was in late June 2012. Got to go with him for a ride on his bike and he took my car for a boot. It was always a pleasure to be in his company because he was a true gentleman and now I will with pleasure keep all my memories of him tucked away in a safe place in my heart. I will remember you always Dixie my good buddy, and forever may you rest in peace. - Posted by: Rick Gallant (Good friends) on: Mar 09, 2014

My sincere condolences on your loss. I will always remember Dixie; he made such a positive impression on me right from the first meeting. Although we did not see much of each other during our acquaintance, I consider myself having lost a great friend and confidant. He immediately struck me as a man of integrity and faith, with a sincere heart for Christ. - Posted by: Len Klassen (Friend; brother in Christ) on: Mar 09, 2014

Dixy, I remember the story you told me near Neepawa, on how the land looked like the East Coast Ocean. This is the area on the West side of Neepawa, and traveling East going onto Neepawa. We will meet again one day Dixy, love ya. - Posted by: Doug Abraham Phoenix Arizona (Worked with Dixy with Grey Goose & Greyhound, till I retired.) on: Mar 09, 2014

Dixie and I go away back to 1985 when he started driving bus. Dixie came with me to Gainsborough, SK. on a training run and he showed a keen interest in being the best he could be at his new found profession of long haul bus driving. Through the years we got to know each other better and I was always amazed at how the room brightened when Dixie strolled in and shared another of his entertaining stories. We will miss him. - Posted by: Doug Stern (fellow driver) on: Mar 08, 2014

I met Dixy when I was visiting my mother in Swan River probably around 15 or more years ago and we instantly become friends, Dixy was like that, he'd capture you with great stories of Newfoundland, his homeland, and of adventures on the buses he drove through Manitoba. I returned mostly in summer time from California and sometimes in winter and would always meet Dixy when his bus arrived. My mother, Anne, especially loved to have Dixy drop by when he had some free time, they would talk and cook and just enjoy each other's company, I can never thank Dixy enough for giving so much time to my aging mother, he was our third brother, she loved how he called her "mother". There's so much to say about Dixy, as most of us knew him. He was as honest and fresh as anyone could be. I and my brother Dave will miss him very much, he was part of our lives. - Posted by: Jim Makichuk (Friend) on: Mar 08, 2014

I worked on many occasions with Dixy while working for Embassy Tours and he was my driver. Dixy was such a great person to travel with and kept us laughing with his jokes and occasionally would talk in his newfie accent. He would sometimes end the trip with a poem and the passengers loved it. He was great with the passengers and they all enjoyed him so much. He was one of my favourite drivers. - Posted by: Carol Krauchi (Tour Director for Embassy Tours. ) on: Mar 08, 2014

So sorry to hear the news Jean. Wish we could be in Winnipeg, however, currently in North Carolina volunteering. Dixie's vibrant personally and sense of humor brought fun and laughter wherever he was. I'm sure he is making Jesus laugh with his one liners and Newfie jokes. His joyful Christianity was an example for all of us. - Posted by: June/Gerry Roberts (friend & brother in the Lord) on: Mar 08, 2014
