PAUL BARIBEAU May 5, 1922 - March 13, 2014 Paul Ernest Baribeau passed away peacefully at the age of 91 with his children by his side. Paul will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Debra (David) Houle, his son Mark (Jocelyne) Baribeau, and grandchildren Carly, Ryan, Hudson, Vincent and Micah. He also leaves to mourn his sister Grace Stewart, sisters-in-law Mary DeMeyer, Rachael Remillard, Edna Tremblay, Bernice Twerdun (Peter), Diane Lamontagne (Ron), Nadia Stubbe, brother-in-law Michael Baron, and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his wife Alice in 1979, his siblings Margaret Serada, Vincent Baribeau, Dorothy Robbins, David Baribeau, and his parents Daisy and Joseph Baribeau. Paul was born and raised in Winnipeg, enjoying fishing and camping excursions with his family. He left high school early to join the Canadian effort in the Second World War. Paul operated a Bren Carrier in Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands with the Princess Louise Fusiliers of Halifax. He attended the 50th anniversary of VE day in Apeldoorn, over 20 regimental reunions in Halifax / Bedford and proudly attended local Veterans events to share his experiences with younger generations. After returning from overseas, Paul built six boats using hand tools. Profits from the sale of his last boat went to purchase a wedding ring for his soon to be bride Alice, whom he married on July 6, 1962. Paul began his career working in his father's garage as a mechanic for two years, was then employed by Veteran's Affairs, Trans Canada Airlines and retired with Bristol Aerospace in 1985. Affectionately known as Grandpa Doodee, Papa and Grandpa Beebeau, Paul wasn't afraid to let out his inner child when playing with his grandchildren. Grandpa was famous for tobogganing into his 80s, skating on backyard rinks, riding a child-sized bicycle, drawing for hours and even inventing his own unique vocabulary leaving his audience in stitches. Grandpa loved and was loved by his grandchildren. The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and staff at Riverview Health Centre 3E and St. Boniface General Hospital 7AS for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 21 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. We are comforted knowing you are reunited with Mom. Till we meet again Dad. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • While I was related to Paul by marriage I never had the pleasure of meeting him. I am privileged, however, to know other family members and it's clear he was loved and respected. My sincere condolences go out to all the family, but especially to Grace, Joe, Gladys, Bobby, Jadanna, and Jennifer. - Posted by: Heather (Sereda) Hamilton (Related by marriage) on: Mar 17, 2014

  • I met Paul in the mid 1980's during which time I was college pals with his son Mark. He was a welcoming person who was eager to entertain with a story or 3 from days gone by. He was a soft spoken fellow with a gentle disposition. He will be missed. - Posted by: Rob Cohen (Friend) on: Mar 16, 2014

  • To Mark, Jocelyne and family - Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Marilyn & Béla - Posted by: Marilyn & Béla Szajcz (Friends of the family) on: Mar 16, 2014

  • Worked with Paul at Bristol: 1964-2003. He was a great friend. He was first to water ski across lake Winnipeg. His greatest pride in life was his family. Both his wife and children were the center of his universe. He never quite recovered from losing his wife. Honest and genuine, we will miss him. Jim - Posted by: Jim Corrie (friend) on: Mar 16, 2014
