MURIEL ADA CADE (nee PHILLIPS) On March 5, 2014, Muriel passed away at Golden Links Lodge, Winnipeg, at the age of 92. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Lois Loganberg (Cliff), Joyce Kroeker (Bob), Alan (Kelly) of Winnipeg, Larry (Jackie) and Berton (Anna) of Victoria; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brother Ken Phillips (Bobbie) and sister Ruth Arnold (George). Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Fred, brother Stanley Phillips and sister Jean Cottingham. Muriel was born on February 20, 1922, to Julia and Burton Phillips of West Kildonan, and related fond memories of growing up on Forrest Avenue. Muriel attained her secretarial training at Success Business College. Muriel married Frederick H. Cade, Jr., in Toronto on August 1, 1941, while Fred was in training for overseas duty. Post war, the couple purchased their first home in St. Boniface, later residing in Norwood Flats and Windsor Park. In 1959, Muriel returned to the workforce in part to be able to afford that first family car of which she was the sole driver. We marvel now at how Mom managed us all, worked full-time and kept a spotless home, all the while we never doubted her concern for us and quiet pride. In 1978, Muriel and Fred retired to Gimli for the summer and Pharr, Texas, for the winter. Squaredancing, camping and golfing with their close friends was what they lived for. Upon Fred's death in 1986, Muriel continued to winter in Texas, thinking nothing of driving great distances; her car being her favorite possession. Muriel was an independent, unflappable, confidant woman, good friend, and an understanding and accepting Mother. She enjoyed life to the fullest until at age 83 a small stroke precipitated a move to Dakota House and then in 2010 to Golden Links Lodge. We are grateful to the staff whose expertise and dedication helped Muriel endure her last years. A celebration of Muriel's life will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd, on Monday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m., Interment will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I met Muriel about 40 years ago through her son Berton. She was always in a good mood and very friendly. As I got older I would continually bump into her, usually at Safeway, where we had some great talks. I will always remember her upbeat, friendly personality, and charming smile. Always a pleasure to talk to. I wish the Cade family my condolences on her passing. Posted by: Grant Paleshnuik - Posted by: Grant Paleshnuik (friend) on: Mar 22, 2014

  • I have known the Cade family over the course of 50 years, including when Muriel came to live at Dakota House, where my own mother lived. Muriel was always upbeat and anxious to get a ride or to go on an outing. It was a double pleasure seeing her there in the foyer chatting amongst other tenants, yet never a time went by when she was up for a chat or a wave to greet you. I know how close a friendship one can build with a mother and as I visited some of you over the years I felt she was always in your hearts. Saying prayers for all of you . - Posted by: LAURIE gydĂ© (Friend of the family) on: Mar 22, 2014
