DUDLEY EDWARD CRAMPTON March 14, 1924 - March 15, 2014 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend. Born in London, England, he was the eldest son of William and Jessie Elizabeth Crampton. He was also predeceased by his brother John, and beloved wife Ruby, of 45 years. Dudley was lucky to find happiness again with his beloved late wife, Thelma. Left to mourn are his loving daughters Christina (Bob), Audrey, son James, grandchildren Mark (Rissa), and Angela (Mike), and siblings Warren and Audrey in England. Through his second wife, Dudley also gained a stepfamily whom he loved dearly, Darlene (Brian), Lyle (Wendy), Kate (Ritchie, Ainsley and Caidan), Paul, Jamie (Dayna and Adrian), Dean (Jenn, Mallory and Adam), Tana (Ryan and Deacon), Arnold and Murial. He also leaves behind special friends, Vera and Audrey. Dudley came to Canada in 1956 in search of a better life for himself and his family. He was a veteran of the Second World War, with approximately 100 parachute jumps during his service, and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #90, where he served two terms as president. During Dudley's career, he worked on the assembly of the Avro Arrow. He was also a Fourth Class Engineer, and worked at Union Carbide, Watkins and Quinton's. With a love of sports, Dudley remained active much of his long life, including golfing, curling, playing cricket, and was even a welter-weight champion in boxing during his teenage years. He was also a skilled and graceful dancer. Dudley enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Lac du Bonnet, gardening, tracking birds, and spending time with friends and family. Hours before his passing, Dudley got to celebrate his 90th birthday, surrounded by loving family and friends. A man of great class, wit, and compassion, Dudley was loved and admired by a great many, leaving his mark on everyone he met. His memory and values live on through each of us he has touched. We will miss his smile that lit up his eyes, his soft humming that filled a quiet void, and the gentle soul that brought comfort with his mere presence. Dudley did not wish to have a formal service in his honour. In keeping with his wishes, the family instead would like to invite friends and family to an informal celebration of his life; to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Fort Garry Branch #90, located at 1125 Pembina Hwy. The family would like to thank the numerous doctors who cared for Dudley, and the staff at Riverview Health Centre 3E, where Dudley spent the last weeks of his life, for the exceptional care they gave him. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Dudley's name to CancerCare Manitoba or Prostate Cancer Canada, or a charity of your choice. So many memories, which all started in 1956, when our two families met when we arrived from England to make a new life in Canada. A friendship developed, which has lasted over many decades. Despite the many changes over the years, Dudley was always considered to be a very special friend. I will miss our annual "chats". Rest in Peace Cathy. - Posted by: Cathy Batten (friend) on: Mar 26, 2014

I remember him as the "Mayor" of that small cottage community at Lac Du Bonnet from the early 70s. Making his rounds and seeing everyone was okay. We camped at our friends Al & Mary's cottage lot in our tent trailer and enjoyed many fine campfires with the gang and enjoyed his droll sense of humour. - Posted by: Lucille Rybuck (friend) on: Mar 22, 2014
