JOHN (JACK) GOODFELLOW (GRANDPA JACK) With profound sadness the family announces the passing of Jack Goodfellow on March 16, 2014 at home at the age of 86. Jack spent the day with his family and peacefully passed away in the evening with his wife Jean at his side. Jack was born February 3, 1928 in Fort William, Ontario. He married Jean McMaster in 1948 and celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary on October 9, 2013. They had five children from 1949 through to 1958. Jack was employed with Libby's from 1956 to 1985. In 1964 he was transferred to Winnipeg. This was a huge undertaking for Jack and Jean with five kids in tow. It was early on in this move that they realized settling in Transcona was the ideal location to raise their family. Jack and Jean have 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and have been very active in all their lives. They always felt so very fortunate to have the majority of them living close by. Very seldom did a day go by that they didn't have someone dropping in for a visit. Jack and Jean had a way of making everyone feel welcome. Jack loved music. If you were lucky enough to drop in at the right time you were serenaded and maybe even got to see a few dance moves. Jack had a cheerful disposition and loved to tell jokes. He took great pleasure in making people laugh. His greatest pride and joy were his grandkids. He loved them all so very much and it was evident that they loved him equally! Jack took every opportunity to let each and everyone in his family know how much he loved them. In his younger years Jack was in Air Cadets. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias of Fort William, Ontario, holding various ranks over the years. He loved playing baseball and continued to play until the move to Winnipeg in 1964. As he got older his interests became bowling, curling, darts and bingo. Jack was predeceased by his mother Alice Harrower, stepfather Jim Harrower, father Don Goodfellow, and in-laws Cora and Ran McMaster. Jack's family takes great comfort in knowing he is reunited with his Aunt Bessie and Uncle Bob Elvish. He is survived by his wife Jean, a true blessing in his life and will be dearly missed by son Don and Iris, son Bob and Deb, daughter Bev and Art Pitre, daughter Deb and Glenn Moore, and daughter Cathy Nykoluk and Richard Mueller; grandchildren Lana (Bill), Mick, Nicole (Danny), Sandee (Chris), Brad (Marnie), Dan, Jeff (Amber), Sharla (Alexi), Reg (Julieth), Bryan, Ashley, Tom (Jenna) and Mike, and great-grandchildren Brandon, Myles, Jason, Kyess, Kenna, Asher, Braylon, Jack, Myelle, Hudson, Josie and Isla. Also surviving Jack is sister Erva (Jerry) Zager, sister-in-law Dolly Bailey all of Thunder Bay, Ontario and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sincere thanks to Dr. P. Daeninck and his colleagues for their guidance and expertise over these past two and one half years. Special thanks to Dr. Marc Frechette. Jack always looked forward to his appointments and the shared humour over the years. His kindness and concern are greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Please join us for an informal gathering of family and friends to celebrate Jack's life on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at The Canad Inns, West Ballrooms B and C, 826 Regent Avenue West, Winnipeg. Condolences & Memories (16 entries)

  • Jack was like a brother to Bill. They were in school together and used go out on the town. We have so many great memories of Jack at camp on Lake Superior. We played lots of cards and ever so many other games. We both will remember the many New Year's parties with much laughter and jokes and stories. Bill often talks about the night the two of them went to the CLE and saw "Stella by Starlight". It evidently was the big show that night. God Bless you Jack and you know who loved you. We will miss you a lot. Do hope Jean and the families are doing well. Jack was a great man and loved by many. • We lived beside Jack and Jean Goodfellow and family for over 20 years. I remembered he worked at Libby's because we always got dented cans of beans! He liked my mom's Boiled Raisin cookies, so he always got a dozen or more whenever she made them. He always made us laugh and gave us Halloween candy even when we were too old to be "Trick or Treating". He was a great man and he will be missed dearly. Rest in Peace Jack. • I am very sad to hear of Mr. Goodfellow's passing. I grew up next door to them and have many fond memories of him. They had a spare key to the house and I needed to knock on the door on many an occasion and he would always have a joke or story to tell. I spent lots of time at their house visiting and spending time with some of his grandkids that I went to school with also. I am sending my thoughts and prayers to Mrs. Goodfellow and the rest of the family at this time. - Posted by: Wendy Robinson (Old Neighbour) on: Mar 22, 2014

  • I was so sad to hear of Jack's passing. He was a dear friend and neighbour of ours in Thunder Bay. My mom and dad (Jessie & Hank Blais) spent many hours with Jack and Jean....I remember lots of laughter and support for each other. Jack always called me Doowa because Deb and Cathy pronounced my name that way. Jack always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. He was the type of person that you wanted to be around. Al (my husband) and I would like to extend our deepest condolences to Jean and all the family. He will be sorely missed.
