THOMAS JOHN BECKTA September 22, 1938 - March 26, 2014 With his loving family at his side, Tom Beckta passed away peacefully on March 26, 2014 at the Grace General Hospital. A caring husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Tom will be greatly missed by Rose (nee Fosseneuve), his wife of 50 years; children: Jeffery, Jacqueline (Fred Goods) of Brandon, MB, Adrienne (Michael Rybak) of Atlanta, GA, and grandchildren Joshua, Stephen and Matthew. He leaves behind his sister Shirley (Werner Ziolkowski), brother Arnold (Adeline), stepbrother Wayne Obleman (Dawn), many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Francis Beckta, Mary (nee Hanson), and stepmom Lucy (nee Purdy), as well as his sisters Rosalie, Doris and her husband Paul Bradley. Born in Rosefield, SK, Tom grew up on a farm in Fleming, and attended high school in Moosemin. He moved to Winnipeg with his sister Doris in the early 1960s. Soon thereafter, he met the love of his life, Rose, whom he later said "it was love at first sight". They married in August of 1963, and settled in Charleswood to raise their family. Educated at Red River College, Tom received his Journeyman Electrician license and went on to be an apprentice at Wareham and Crowe, where he learned his trade and eventually went on to be an independent electrical contractor and founded Tom's Electrical Service. Motivated by a love of his vocation, Tom soon gained many loyal clients including Bisons Transport, Meadowood Manor, and Pal Plastics. It was at Bisons Transport he was initially brought in for one small job that lead to over 20 years of loyal service as they grew into one of the biggest trucking companies in Canada. Tom was considered more than contractor there; he was part the Bison family. He became affectionately known there as "Sparky" by those that knew him, and will be greatly missed by the owners, staff and drivers. Tom had an adventurous spirit and loved the outdoors. Many summers were spent with family and friends at Lake of the Woods and the Whiteshell. Family trips involved camping and many ski trips to Western Canada. Tom always looked forward to spring break vacations that took the family to the Southern U.S. States. Of all the qualities that describe Tom, most will remember him as a hard working man who never seemed to tire from his work. He was a gracious, fun-loving, humble, and faith filled man that loved his family and friends dearly. The family would like to sincerely thank the nursing staff and doctors on Unit 3N at Grace General Hospital for all the compassion and care they showed Tom. A funeral mass will be held to celebrate and remember Tom on Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7, or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3R 0G4. Time to rest those hard working hands Much love and Godspeed Tom, Dad NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
