Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBRENT MAXWELL MCVEAN 1942 - 2014 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brent Maxwell McVean on Thursday, March 27, 2013 at Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg at the age of 71 years. He was taken suddenly from us by leukemia. Besides his friends Brent leaves to mourn his son Jason and partner Nadine of British Columbia; adopted daughter Pauline in Alberta; his much loved life partner Robert Strickler of Virginia and Florida; and fondly loved Nova Scotia aunts, Hilda and Verna plus Uncle Earl and Aunt Ruth. He will be sorely missed by many friends and family across Canada and the U.S. Brent was born in Halifax, NS, August 18, 1942, son of the late Scottie and Edna McVean. He had one brother, Darrell, who predeceased him. In his youth Brent did marathon swimming, once swimming 15 miles. At age 18 he joined the Meteorology School in Ottawa and weather dominated his career. He moved to Winnipeg in 1972. Prior to this he did tours in Northern Ontario, the high Arctic and other centers. When Brent retired at age 52 he was head of finance and administration for Environment Canada's central region. In his retirement he spent 15 winters in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. More recently he bought a condo in Fort Lauderdale and spent his winters there and summers in Winnipeg. Brent loved his garden and loved to travel. Brent had many friends and was noted for his strong organizational and social skills as well as his wit, compassion and listening abilities. "Brent held a special love and kindness for everyone," said one of his many friends. He was noted for his thoughtfulness for others and for his nonjudgmental attitude. He always gave people the benefit of the doubt and was frequently a volunteer in local organizations as well as supporting several Canadian charities. In compliance with Brent's wishes no Funeral Service will be held. His Interment will be held in the family plot this summer in Halifax, NS. " whatever you choose in life, be it a success " these are the words I remember in my youth hearing from my father Brent. Yet it's him that succeeded in touching so many other people's lives, including my own. Almost a year has gone by since he passed ... I will always carry with me those spoken words every day of every year to come ...Rest, know you were loved. Always. - Posted by: Pauline mcvean (Daughter) on: Feb 27, 2015
