Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUSSELL ALBERT (ROCKY) COURCHENE It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Rocky Courchene. He passed away March 29, 2014 at Concordia Hospital, at the age of 63 years. He was predeceased by his mother Virginia Courchene, his brother Sid and niece Mychelle Hernandez-Courchene. He is survived by his lifetime soul mate, Joan (Chick) Bruyere, daughters Vanessa (Greg) and Olivia (James), grandchildren Cameron, Madison, Ethan, Zennon, his great-grandson Trenton, whom he called his "Little Buddy" and his brother Basil (Marlene). Rocky was born on April 8, 1950 at Pine Falls, MB and spent his years growing up in Sagkeeng, MB, where he met Chick, the love of his life. Rocky was a very hard worker which earned him a reputation as a skilled carpenter, often helping family and friends with numerous projects. He was the kind of man to help anyone without hesitation and expected nothing in return but a cold beer. In 1985, Rocky and Chick moved their little family to Winnipeg, where he later earned a certificate in carpentry from Red River College, as well as a degree in Arts from the University of Winnipeg. Rocky always looked forward to meeting up with family for regular barbecues and family dinners; he had numerous hobbies and interests. He was a fan of the Jets and Blue Bombers, and loved to watch hockey, football, he even began to enjoy watching curling. Rocky will always be remembered as a generous kind-hearted family man. He was proud of his Anishinabe roots and enjoyed telling stories to his children, grandchildren and anyone that stopped to visit. He had a special fondness for his "grand-dog" Oreo, showering him with treats and attention. He especially loved buying him Tim Bits and would get a real kick out of watching him break open the bag for his treat. Rocky was a devoted Beatles fan and was especially thrilled to attend Paul McCartney in concert not once but twice. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him, and will always be remembered for his enigmatic personality. A traditional wake service will take place starting on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at St. Alexander Parish, Sagkeeng, MB, followed by the funeral service held on Tuesday, (Today) April 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Father Augustine officiating.
