SHARON ANN FIELD It is with heavy hearts the family announces the sudden passing of Sharon Ann Field on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the age of 55 years. Sharon was born on February 9, 1959 in Montreal, Quebec. Predeceased by her father, John, in October 2008 and very recently her mother, Sheila, in February 2014, Sharon will be lovingly remembered by her brother Gavin (Terri), sisters Andrea, Allison and Jennifer (Kaz Cieslar), and her much loved nephew and niece, Jesse and Samantha Downing. She will also be missed by her church family, many friends and all the students she taught over the years. Music was Sharon's biggest passion in life. It began with a guitar that she received one Christmas morning but certainly didn't end there. Besides her amazing voice, she mastered the guitar, piano, banjo, violin, and dulcimer - pretty much anything that played a musical note and she could get her hands on. So it's no wonder she was such an amazing music teacher. If a student wanted to learn an instrument that she didn't play, she would teach herself first and then her student. This included the trumpet and the drums. Her strong faith led her to be involved with Windsor Park United Church for over 40 years where she shared her love of music. She directed the Joyful Noise (ages 5-12), mentored the Praise Team (ages 13-20) and sang her heart out with the Worship Choir. She loved it all, but it was the children who captured her heart. She fostered the love of music in this generation's children. She was also instrumental in the Parkwood Lakes new church development in Island Lakes. Her love of books and knowledge was amazing. Her graciousness, kindness and generosity were never ending. She gave us far more than we ever returned to her. A celebration of Sharon's life will be held at Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive, Winnipeg at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014. A private family interment will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Windsor Park United Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. For information on the Memorial Fund, please contact the Church at (204) 256-8792. "The song may be over, but the music goes on forever." Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I met Sharon at WIU. A more generous and kind person I have never known. She taught me some of my favorite songs. Her Caesars' salad was amazing. She read voraciously. Her voice was lovely. Her humor dry. Her intellect was amazing. Her laugh totally unique. She was my dear friend for so many years. We had this connection where one of us would call, just when the other was thinking of calling. It was magical. When we lost touch I was distressed. I will miss her more than I can say. She was a bright star. - Posted by: Dana Manarchy (College friend) on: Feb 12, 2024

  • I just learned of Sharon's passing now. We met at university and were friends for many years before losing touch. She was so kind to me during a difficult time of my life, as was her dear mother. She was, and I believe still is, very intelligent, extremely talented and exceptionally kind. My love to her family. - Posted by: Catherine Pitkeathly (Friend) on: Jul 16, 2017

  • Sharon was always there for us to listen, and was always glad to see my wife and I. We got together for lunch or coffee. - Posted by: Mr & Mrs Paul & Jennifer Williams (Best Friends) on: Apr 25, 2014

  • My family moved to Southdale in 1966 and we lived just down the street from Sharon's family. Like Brenda, I remember walking to school together. I also remember many winter afternoons sliding down the hill in her backyard, so much fun and so many great memories. Rest in peace Sharon. - Posted by: Anna (Purcha) White (childhood friend) on: Apr 23, 2014

  • I would like to send my deepest condolences to Sharon's family. I never knew her well but was in the same school with her in Van Bellegham and J H Bruns and was very sad to hear of her sudden passing. - Posted by: Laurie McFarlane (Friend) on: Apr 16, 2014

  • I met Sharon in 1964 when we attended kindergarten together at St. Bartholomew's Church in Windsor Park. I stood beside her in the class picture, row two (I still have that photo). We both moved in 1966 to Clearwater Road in Southdale. I often walked to school with her and other childhood neighbours, Anna, Terry, Craig……...to Van Bellingham and later J.H. Bruns. She was a kind soul with many talents. God Bless. - Posted by: Brenda Besant-Thompson (childhood friend ) on: Apr 14, 2014

  • My condolences to Gavin, Allison, Andrea and Jennifer on Sharon's passing. While we grew up down the street from each other, I got to know Sharon. For 3-4 years on a weekly basis a few years back. I always wanted to learn guitar. While living in River Park South, Sharon become my instructor at the local music store on Meadowood and in the basement of your parents' home. She was a wonderful person to know, and we conversed as much as we played music. She will be missed. - Posted by: Jim Purcha (friend) on: Apr 12, 2014

  • Although we were born only one week apart and both lived in Windsor Park, we did not meet until later in our lives. Sharon you were a TRUE friend- so intelligent, talented, accepting, understanding and patient. I thank you so much for giving my daughter Rebecca the gifts of music and love. We will miss you so much. I take some comfort in knowing you are with your parents now and watching over us. Love you so much. Till we meet again... • I was Sharon's grade four teacher. I remember her well. She was a child with many gifts and a very kind spirit. - Posted by: Rick Hallstead (Sharon's grade four teacher.) on: Apr 06, 2014

  • I first met Sharon back in grade 5 at Van Bellingham Elementary School. I had just moved to the area and my first day of class I was put next to her, we became friends that very day! The first thing I noticed about Sharon was how smart she was! We have a lot of history together along with the other girls that we still keep in touch with. A friendship was formed and we remained friends for all these years. Thank you for the great memories Sharon, I love you and will always keep you close to my heart! Love Bee xoxo - Posted by: Belinda (Smith) Phillips (Childhood friend) on: Apr 05, 2014
