PAULINE MARIE JOSEPHE LATULIPPE (née TURENNE) Mom was born on October 8, 1922 in the farming community of St-Pierre-Jolys. The oldest daughter in a family of 11 children, she was not unacquainted with hard work. She left home at a young age to train as a hairdresser in Winnipeg, married and had two children whom she loved dearly. They were the proudest achievement of her life and ensured that they were always impeccably dressed and scrupulously cared for. She worked at various jobs throughout her life, whatever was necessary to provide for her livelihood and support her children. It wasn't uncommon for Mom to undertake projects unseemly for a woman of senior years. In her 70s, for example, she built a set of stairs for her daughter's back porch, all on her apartment balcony nonetheless, with materials carted home by public transit! Her last endeavour was the painting of her baseboards, moving furniture about on her own to gain access to them, in the process fracturing a hip. This injury overwhelmed her failing health and she died peacefully in hospital one month later on April 1, 2014, in her 92nd year. Mom really enjoyed her last retirement years at her apartment on Goulet Street, opposite a small shopping mall. She spent many summers rocking in her swing, watching neighbours and passersby. We called it doing "du balconville". Her outings shopping in the area were quite the social event when she would stop and chat with the many people she knew, many of whom were part of the small French Canadian community there. Mom was fiercely self-sufficient and lived independently on her own to the last. She was determined to stay out of a nursing home and that she did. Optimistic and strong of character, she felt she had lived a good life and suffered no regrets. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Dianne and partner, Bernadette Lepine, son, Claude; grandchildren, Madelene and John Claude; great-grandchild, Kameron Leith, as well as her brothers, Yves and Paul, sisters, Lynn, Yvette and Margaret, and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Roland Latulippe. A special thanks to Bernadette, Yvette, Eva and Ron for their kindness shown to my Mom in her final days. In keeping with Mom's wishes cremation has taken place and we will express our thanks and loving farewells on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. Interment of Mom's ashes will take place later this spring in St-Pierre-Jolys, her birthplace. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO.
