MILDRED INGIBJORG EMPSON (SKAGFJORD)
Born: Jul 14, 1925
Date of Passing: Apr 26, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILDRED INGIBJORG EMPSON (nee SKAGFJORD) July 14, 1925 April 26, 2014 With sad hearts we announce that Mildred, beloved wife, mother and Amma, passed peacefully away on April 26, 2014 at Luther Home in Winnipeg. She is dearly missed by loving husband Charles of 57 years, sister Elinor Schnerch, daughters Lori (Raymond Czayka) and Karen (Norm Davies), grandchildren Gudrun, Elin, Kristján (Czayka), Eric, Brent (Davies) and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Jafeta and Thorleifur Skagfjörd, sister Helga Gregory and lifelong friend Mary Lugg (nee Maxon). Mildred entered the world on July 14, 1925 at home in Selkirk, the town where she grew up. She was baptized at home by Rev. S. Thorlakson and confirmed in Icelandic by Rev. V. J. Eylands at Selkirk Evangelical Lutheran Church. She met the love of her life Charles through their shared passion for dance and they wed August 18, 1956. Through hard work, self study and perseverance she worked her way from early bookkeeping jobs to a position with the federal government as Superintendent of the Capital Resource Program for Transport Canada. She was the heart of the family, regularly gathering them together for feasts prepared with love. She was generous with her heart and made numerous friendships at work, in the neighbourhood, at church, and through her many activities. She never hesitated to give her time volunteering through church or community. She was well-travelled, coast to coast, on cruises and to Iceland, most trips focused on being closer to extended family and friends. Many great memories were made over 12 years of Mexico getaways during retirement. We are grateful for the kindness and care extended to her at Luther Home by staff, volunteers and other residents. Their care allowed her personality to still shine through the clouds. A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Avenue on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation and interment will take place prior to the service at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Avenue Winnipeg R2K 0X3 or Luther Home, 1081 Andrews Street, Winnipeg, R2V 2G9. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

We will always remember "Millie" for her wonderful organizing skills and her kind smile.I still can still hear her laughter .She just knew how to get the family together. My husband and I were never very punctual and she always teased us on the importance of being on time .I loved her and admired her..I think it was at her home That I had "cold" soup for the first time.. I didn't know that was the way it was supposed to be..To Millie...You will be missed .. give mom a kiss for me .Both of you will be dancing in heaven.. Love you~(Elaine) - Posted by: Elaine and Kurt Donnelly and family (Elaine is Mildred"s cousin) on: May 03, 2014
