EMIL KARL QUOSS
Date of Passing: May 12, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMIL KARL QUOSS It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a strong man, Emil Quoss, on Monday, May 12, 2014 at the age of 93. Born in Germany to Augustine and Friedrich, he had three sisters, Analisa, Greta and Maria. At 19 he fought bravely on the eastern front, marching on foot all the way to Murmansk. He ended the war in Denmark and received medals for bravery. After the war, he met his wife of 67 years, Erika, and together they came to Canada in 1953. He began working at a farm, then to installing windows and finally becoming a garage door expert. Emil spent many years working at Overhead Door, where they nicknamed him "Dr. Door". Closest to his heart was his family, his dogs and gardening. German Shepherds were his favorites, they earned several ribbons in dog shows in obedience and tracking. He was a member of the German Shepherd Club and trained dogs for tracking. Emil was a hardworking man, who often worked six days a week and did service calls well into the evening. At home gardening was his passion, often bringing flowers and vegetables to his coworkers. A jokester, Emil always brought a smile into a room. He was outgoing and not shy to speak to anyone. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife Erika, son Fred (Pat), sisters Analisa, Maria and niece Rosvita, nephew Paul. Funeral service will be on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Calvary Place, 1325 Erin St. at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Alzheimer Society.

Our condolences to Erika and Fred. Emil gave us the tracking harness from his first Manitoba titled tracking dog, a harness we often successfully used with our own German Shepherds. He also installed our garage door, and was a wonderful man, although unfortunately we only rarely got to see him too many years ago ... Rest in peace, Emil. - Posted by: Irene Klotz (Zaeh) (friend of my dad, Fred Zaeh) on: May 16, 2014

I've know Emil most of my life. Words like kind, caring, strong and determined come to mind when I think back on times spent together. I grew up down the road and only one year older than Fred. We were childhood buddies and I spent a lot of time there. They had a color TV before we even had a TV so watching Mighty Mouse in color was a pretty big deal back then. Emil was always there to help or offer his opinion when Fred and I would be doing what boys do; building forts and go carts. He taught us card games and we spent lots of time playing rummy and sharing a laugh, especially when he would try to teach me German. In later years he was there to help install my garage doors and over time, we had some real good candid conversations and shared some schnapps together. He was a good man and will be missed. My heartfelt condolences go out to Erica, my buddy Fred, Pat and family. Rest in peace Mr Quoss - Posted by: Robert Kroeker (Family friend) on: May 15, 2014
