Mel and I were teenage buddies in Selkirk MB.At one point we both were employed at the Manitoba rolling mill [steel rolling mill]. Mel's younger sister Roseanne was bridesmaid at my wedding in 1952. My wife Esther [deceased] and Roseanne were close friends. My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Melvin. Rest in peace my friend. Victor - Posted by: Victor C. Sincere sympathy on the loss of Mel. I met Mel several times when he came to South Dakota for the State Fiddle Contest. I loved his music and his personality. He was always willing to share his experiences with anyone that expressed an interest. He helped me learn the Canadian fiddle tune Maple Sugar. It was always easy to have fun with Mel and his music. At the contest he was usually one of the last to leave the jam sessions at night. He just loved to play. (I was always amazed that he could play so well with his big fat fingers.) I am going to Weiser Idaho for the National Fiddle contest in the third week of June. I am going to participate in the contest for the first time. My first tune will be Maple Sugar, and I will dedicate this tune in memory of Mel. Sincerely, Ed Gross Worland Wyoming - Posted by: Ed Gross (Fiddling Friend) on: May 22, 2014
