FRANK MCCARTHY September 26, 1924 May 17, 2014 Peacefully, Frank McCarthy passed into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Frank was a devoted and loving husband, "papa", "pépère", and brother. Frank was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Lucille McCarthy (née Gervais), his parents Emma and Frank McCarthy, his brothers, Henry, Patrick, Emilien, Tony; and his granddaughters, Janelle and Anita Nagam. He will be lovingly remembered by his seven children, Gilbert (Ginette) McCarthy, Claire (Jean) Dorge, Estelle (Allan) Dandeneau, Monique (Guy) Lambert, Nicole (Darryl) Nagam, Raymonde Shaw (Tony Balaz) and Joanne (Tim) Vandale; his grandchildren, Christel, Brigitte, Joel, Stephanie, Chantal, Justin, Jérèmie, Matthieu, Sylvie, Danick, Sophie, Isabelle (and her father Doug Shaw); and Frank's sister Hélène Grégoire. Dad was born and raised in La Broquerie, MB and eventually moved to Winnipeg, where he met and married our mother, and worked with much dedication to raise seven children. Dad began his career in the cement business working at Supercrete and shortly after, started a successful cement block hauling company, F.M. Cartage Ltd. He eventually sold the business and his love for sports led him to finish his retiring years working at Pine Ridge Golf course and Heather Curling Club. He was very involved in the church community and the Knights of Columbus. His love for his French culture also had him volunteering for many years at the Festival du Voyageur. Dad was known for his "joie de vivre", whether it be surrounded by his family, playing and watching sports, playing cribbage or singing and dancing. Dad was a very determined, courageous man which led him to fight a 15 year battle with Alzheimer disease. Your passion and determination in life will be missed! The family would like to express their gratitude to the care givers on 5 ABC at Centre Taché for the 13 years of compassionate and dignified care they provided to Dad. We can't thank you enough for all the support you provided to our family and our father. Friends and relatives are invited to celebrate Frank's life by attending a funeral mass which will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 10:45 a.m. at Sts. Martyrs-Canadiens Catholic Church, 289 Dussault Ave. Reception to follow. A private family interment of the cremated remains will follow at a later time at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Papa, repose en paix avec Maman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Glen Lawn Funeral Home in care of arrangements 204-982-7550. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I attended elementary school with Joanne and we were childhood friends. I also had the opportunity to know Frank while working at Tache Centre. He was a pleasant man who always had a nice smile when I greeted him. I wish to extend to Joanne and her family my condolences. God Bless. - Posted by: Mona Painchaud (schoolmate) on: May 29, 2014

  • Love conquers all Frankie... we live on in the hearts of the people we loved and those who loved us.... and you aspired to both. Thank you for sharing a bit of your " old " self with me. Stories... we talked about Supercrete a lot... those huge cement rolling tunnels. Lucille always brought a shine to your eyes...and Family ??? Well you never did want to go far... someone was always coming. You were always a Gentle man... never really lost... those memories were always there... Thank you for sharing. Meeting you made me a kinder person. If I had a Father... mine passed away when I was 6 years old, I would have wanted Him to be like you. In Deepest Respect and Condolences to your cherished Family. A job well done.. rest now my friend. Cecile Restiaux - Posted by: Cecile Restiaux (Friend) on: May 24, 2014
