Condolences & Memories (26 entries)

  • Dear Aunt Irene, I am sorry to hear about Uncle Gilbert's passing. May he rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon him. To you and the children know that although we may question HIS reasoning GOD always knows why. With love, Tessa (Vi & Bob Barnes) - Posted by: Tessa () on: May 28, 2014

  • Gil was an intelligent, friendly, funny, and very caring person. He was the only doctor that I've ever known that would treat his patients and then socialize with them. If we weren't enjoying Chinese food at the Empress of China restaurant, we could be sitting in his rec room watching a football game over a scotch on a Sunday afternoon. His receptive personality and valued friendship will always be cherished and he will be sadly missed. My deepest condolences to Irene and the family. May you rest in peace in God's care, Good Friend. - Posted by: Mike Mayer (Friend/Patient) on: May 26, 2014

  • Gil was my doctor from the first year he started at Monroe Clinic until he retired. For thirty years, he called me Mrs. Belle Amie and talked about us running away together. He sent me to a specialist who removed malignant colon polyps at an early stage and forever after I had to listen to him tell me what a great doctor he was, not the specialist but him. Though I would never give him the satisfaction of agreeing, I always knew how lucky I was to have him for my doctor. When he retired, I found another doctor, but never one that I had the same confidence in, and certainly never one that I felt was also a friend. - Posted by: Gladys Bellamy (patient) on: May 26, 2014

  • My father and I were patients of Dr. Welch's for many years. Dr. Welch took care of my dad through his MS and would go out of his way to see my dad at home when it was needed. I was a patient before I joined the Winnipeg Police and continued to be a patient throughout my career. I always enjoyed chatting with him and he was someone I could count on. I remember having to deal with a call where a person had died. My partner and I were at the scene and we couldn't get a hold of the on-call medical examiner. I phoned Dr. Welch for help. Besides his regular medical practice he filled in as a part-time medical examiner. It was a Friday or Saturday night and he volunteered to come out to the scene. Dr. Welch was able to make the decisions that I needed so I could finish up the police work. On a personal level I learned a lot from Dr. Welch by the way he dealt with people and his attitude towards life. I am sad that he is gone. My condolences to his family, he will be missed. - Posted by: Glen Smyth (former patient) on: May 25, 2014
