REGINALD (REG) GORDON HAYWARD After a courageous battle with cancer, Reginald (Reg) Gordon Hayward passed away on the evening of June 4, 2014. Reg was born on October 16, 1949 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Reg was the brother of four sisters who cherished him and thought he could do no wrong. Reg spent most of the 1970s in Toronto where he worked for Eatons, Verkerka, Much Music and Via Rail. He moved on to work at B.C. Tel and Telus. After 40 years living on English Bay he retired and purchased a home on Salt Spring Island where he spent his days gardening and walking on the beach with his beautiful retrievers Max and Abby. Reg is preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Edith Hayward. He is survived by his four sisters Elaine, Nancy, Gerry, Deb and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Norbert Personal Care Home for all of their care and smiles, also the Cancer Care units in Victoria General Hospital in Victoria, BC and Health Science Center in Winnipeg for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the CancerCare Manitoba. Native American Prayer "I give you this one thought to keep - I am with you still - I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not think of me as gone I am with you still in each new dawn." Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Very sorry to read Reg`s obit in the Free Press. We lost contact when my father and I moved from Headingley after my mother passed. My condolences to the family. Jean - Posted by: Jean MacDonald Copland (school friend) on: Jun 08, 2014

  • I worked closely with Reg for a number of years at TELUS in the Paging department. Reg was always helpful and caring, funny, upbeat and a natural born green-thumb, always scolding me when my plants wilted. He referred to me constantly as Mrs. H, in reference to the millionaire couple in the TV series Hart to Hart (my last name) and of course his last name. However, as he stated, we were just a couple of working stiffs! I am sorry for your loss, it was a pleasure to know him ..... - Posted by: Jan Hart (Co-worker, TELUS) on: Jun 07, 2014
