RONALD HOCKING February 13, 1937 - June 10, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Hocking, our loving husband, father, grandad and great-grandfather. He was predeceased by his parents Ena and Leslie, sister Pam, and brother Den. Ron will be sadly missed by his loving wife Eleanor, daughter Alison Demare, son Tim Hocking, sister Margaret Bayley, stepdaughters Diane Burke, Eleanor Farrant, Maureen Schoepp and stepson Ken Farrant. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren Justin, Eric, Robyn, Sarah, Ryan, Haldon, Kyle, Aaron, Ken, Raymond, Kaedyn, Teagan and Shiloh will remember him fondly as a very active and loving Grandad. Born in Bristol, England, Ron brought his young family to Canada in 1966 to pursue his passion for teaching. His career started at Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate where he molded young minds through academics and physical education. Ron's passion on the rugby field carried through into his passion for coaching, everything from soccer, gymnastics, tennis to field hockey. Throughout his active career he received many accolades for his time and dedication to sport. To name just a few, Ron is named to the Manitoba Sport Hall of Fame for his involvement with the Winnipeg Fury, he was a key volunteer for both the 1967 and the 1999 Pan Am games as well as the Manitoba and Canada Games, and he received the Order of St. John in 1996. Ron's involvement did not just stop at sports. He was the Chair of the Board for his church and instrumental in his involvement in Scouting and a hard working instructor within St. Johns Ambulance. Ron's last years were unfortunately battling Alzheimer's disease which he did courageously. He was a strong man with a kind heart and will be missed by all who knew him. Ron, may you be free again to play your game alongside God in heaven. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 4:00 at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road. In lieu of flower donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society (who was extremely supportive through our journey) or to a charity of your choice. • I was a student at Daniel Mac and I remember mr Hocking as the boys gym teacher. I was a Guider at St Vital United in the 1980s which would likely be after Ron`s tenure time as he was not one of my son`s Scout masters. Ron was an outstanding teacher.
