RICHARD HANSELL It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Rick on June 7, 2014. He is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Jennifer (Helio), son Wesley (Christy), and the light of his life, grandson Braiden. He also leaves behind sister Patty, Uncle Kenny, brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by father Charlie, mother Marjorie, brothers Brian, Barry and Jimmy. Growing up, Rick was taught the value of hard work, the importance of family, and that there isn't much you can't solve by extending a friendly hand and cracking a good joke. On the farm in St. Boniface, Rick and his brothers - his partners in crime - fixed and built cars, which remained a lifelong passion. After marrying his high-school sweetheart, Kathy, the couple designed and built two homes, a cottage, and managed properties while raising a family. Rick's pursuits always involved socializing and he was known for his outgoing personality. He was active in his community, as well as a world traveller. "Hutzell" trips included family, friends, neighbours, or simply anyone we met along the way. Rick and Kathy's travels took them on many winter getaways, most recently to Phoenix; and to Europe, Russia, China, Japan, and Peru. They also hosted cultural exchanges with the Friendship Force, opening their home to visitors from Cypress, Brazil, and South Carolina. Rick's passion in life was cars and anything that ran on wheels. He built many custom rods, including his 37 GMC pickup, the flagship of his collection. He travelled throughout North America to car shows, drag races, and swap meets where he made many friends. At home, he entertained in his "Hot Rod Nursery", clad in his infamous car shirts, his tunes playing. To his wife, Rick was the sun, the moon and the stars. To his kids he was a larger-than-life-role model, teaching us that dreams do come true with determination and hard work. To his friends he was a rock to lean on and loyal friend to share a glass of Bacardi with. The family would like to thank everyone who shared time with Rick, and made his life what it was. Special thanks to Ted Churchill, a beloved friend and sidekick. A service to celebrate Rick will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2:00 p.m. at Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
