HOWARD WILLIAM THRELFALL On Friday, June 20, 2014 Howard passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children. He was predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy of 62 years. He is survived by his three children Joanne Van Berkel (Mark), Pamela Noakes (John) and Jeffrey Threlfall (Beverley); grandchildren Jeffrey, Tyler, Brittany and Rebecca Van Berkel, Bradley and Meaghan Noakes, Justin and Joshua Threlfall, Stacy and Jenna Metner, sister-in-law Grace Curry, and several nieces and nephews. Howard was born December 27, 1928, in Winnipeg, graduating from Kelvin High School. He took great pride in being a member of the Winnipeg Rods Football Club and making the all-star team, as a guard. Howard began his career at Winnipeg Supply and Fuel Company, as a power engineer. At age 26 Howard became the youngest recipient to obtain his first class power engineering certificate. He became a boiler inspector for the General Accident Insurance Company, moving to the Royal Insurance Company as the Assistant Manager of Western Canada. Howard was well respected in the Insurance Industry affectionately known as Mr. Boiler, retiring in 1993. After retirement Mom and Dad spent many enjoyable winters in Mesa, Arizona. Howard was always involved in his children's activities from coaching soccer to becoming the President of the Manitoba Swimming Association. In 1964 Howard and Dorothy purchased their cottage at Brereton Lake. Time spent at the cottage with family and friends were the happiest times of their lives. He was an accomplished tradesman. The cottage was Howard's labour of love and their legacy to their children and grandchildren. We will forever miss his optimism, sunny disposition, wonderful sense of humour and the love and devotion he gave to his family. He was a man of great integrity and a true gentleman. We would like to thank the staff of River East Personal Care Home for the care and compassion they showed our father during his stay. Flowers gratefully declined, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. A private family service will be held.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I was thinking of Howard, as I do often, and thought today I'd look him. I'm so very, very sorry for your loss. Howard was a teacher and mentor to me; and contributed to my work ethic and goals in life. Fondly I remember him watching his diet and taking 1/2 a chocolate and returning the rest to the box! I met your Mom also and liked her a great deal. Your Dad had an influence on my life and I am very glad to have known him. - Posted by: Elaine Lilley () on: May 20, 2015
