Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • So sorry to hear about big daddy! Big man with a big heart and a big laugh. Many a Friday night going to town or a Saturday night social and Big Daddy was always with us, which is why I was allowed out because mom felt that we were safe as long as Joe was with us! I regret that we only saw glimpses of each other in the last 45 years. Good memories and so glad I had a friend in Big Daddy. Rest in Peace my friend. - Posted by: Daniel Meilleur () on: Jul 07, 2014

  • When we were kids we used to play a lot of card games. A good memory was playing Donkey. It involved spoons. If you got the right cards you yelled donkey and grabbed a spoon. Joe and I happened to yell donkey at the same time and grab a spoon. We both had the spoon. I jumped over the table, jumped on Joe and ripped the spoon out of his hands. Joe was laughing so hard he couldn't get up off the floor, but I got that spoon!!. He really was just a big Teddy bear. He willed be missed by all who were close to him. RIP big brother. - Posted by: Claudette Gagnon (Sister) on: Jun 30, 2014

  • As Big Daddy's little baby sister I could always count on him for protection. No one dared mess with me when Joe was around. I remember a social we were at, and there was a guy that kept bugging me to dance and wouldn't take no for an answer. Big Daddy came over and told the guy to get lost and leave me alone "or else". I was all of about 15 at the time and you can just imagine the look on the guys face at seeing this giant of a guy coming to my defence. Needless to say the guy didn't bother me after that. That was just Big Daddy, there when you needed him. Over the years we did not keep in touch that much, but I am so glad we got to talk at our family reunion. Rest in peace my big brother. - Posted by: Gisele Badescu (sister) on: Jun 30, 2014

I knew when he was around I had nothing to worry about, because he would be there. I had not seen him in many years but was thought about often. • My first memories of Joe were with TJ, Geoff K., Neil V and I would all illegally pack into that old truck as teenagers and get rides to or from The Edge Skatepark. One night I was leaving Neil's place and was driving down that damned icey Canberra back lane in my little Mazda B2200. When all of a sudden got stuck on nothing. So as I try to push myself out I hear. "What the Hell are you doing, your not getting out." As Joe's walking over flailing two pieces of cardboard in the air. Two minutes later I was on Autumnwood and heading home. And another time, pretty sure it was around the time my parents took Martial with us to Fargo as I pleaded so for my best buddy to come on a skateboarding venture in another country. But when we got back Joe comes out the house with a couple of frozen chickens and takes my mom inside to show her what else he had in there with the open arms offer. There's now a physical void in the Gauthier family and in everyone's life now that Ol Crazy Joe is gone. But the memories now remain more vivid in my mind than ever. My prayers go out to my brother Martial and his family. And I can still here him from up their Martial saying. . . "I see you, I see you guys over dere!" For my best friend and his best friend. - Posted by: Carter Barron (family friend) on: Jun 28, 2014

  • When I was young I was kinda scared of Uncle Joe just because of his size but as I grew up I learned he was a giant teddy bear. He was a great man and will be missed by many. RIP Uncle Joe - Posted by: Carmen Bisaillon (Niece) on: Jun 28, 2014
